I thought you needed "hip" uniforms to recruit - even Oregon wore their real colors

I've finally decided that I want Syracuse to be the first school to not wear a color at all. I vote for all clear uniforms! Who's with me??!!

I think you are overstating the impact of the uniforms. For the last twenty years Oregon has spent millions on infrastructure and coaches - dating back to the decision to hire Rich Brooks. This has been a process and a function of big money. The uniforms are clearly a flourish, but the improvement in the program began well before the funky uniforms. Unfortunately, the SU administration has made the same presumption that your post has made - and because of that we have thrown out a solid and attractive brand.

Don't make me dig up the quotes from the Oregon coaches. The impact is negligent today - but when they started it - it became a hugely effective marketing tool. It was and is genius.

The fact that now it's spread to over half of college football is proof enough. That it's now less effective doesn't take away how creative or effective it was 10 years ago.

No where did I say it was more important than money, facilities, and truly unique coaching. But for a fan base that rails on its team's inability to get kids into a less talent rich area AND its marketing failures, Oregon should be a beacon of hope. Now, we just need some SU kid who loves football to be the next Zuckerburg.

Oregon was emerging before Kelly became HC. Remember the Times Square billboard of Harrington? (We know DG was inspired enough to do Orange in the Apple). Before all the funky uniforms, Oregon started winning and scoring lots of points. You know what markets well nationally- going on tv and putting up 40-50 points against other teams. The uniforms help in the sense that kids know that Nike is going to give them the newest gear, but that's more about Knight's cash investment in the program than anything else.

Kelly was his OC, no?

The Pink and Green thing is pretty meaningless. It was fleeting and has no bearing upon the Syracuse University Football Tradition - Bill Orange.

Kudos to you for not picking up on the sarcasm.

And Shafer said that the awful SU funky uniforms would help in recruiting. He said what he was supposed to say.

And they've been doing it for years. Def must be ineffective.

Is...is the original premise of this thread that Oregon doesn't use modern/ugly uniforms?

Is this a joke? Am I on Candid Camera? Is Candid Camera still a thing? Is Candace Cameron still a thing? Why am I thinking about Full House now? Is that Alannis Morisette song really about Dave Coulier? Does anyone know where Dave Coulier is these days?

Kelly was his OC, no?

Kelly joined Oregon in 2007. Bellotti won two Pac 10 titles before he arrived. Oregon's had a pretty good run at QB- even after Akili Smith flopped in the NFL.

Every school we went to visit has made a huge deal of their uniforms. Miami built an entire showcase for showing off their uniforms. The free gear Nike gives the kids to make sure their not wearing anything else. This years recruits saying they can't wait to get that gear. The schools put up these displays for a reason. They have 12 different combinations to wear for a reason. Hell my own kid says uniforms matter. Is it the main reason they choose a school... No. Is it part of their decision absolutely.

These uniform threads are just the same people circlejerking each other. We all get it.

I think it it will be Adidas gear going forward

Wait. I was told it plays no part ever and battled a mod for like 10 pages.

Thanks, Bam!

Take a McNabb uni or even a Nassib uni and ask a committed recruit, "would you still have committed to SU if these were our unis?" I'm betting 100% would say yes.

Btw, we changed unis and colors so many times, kids commit before they ever see the uni they will wear.

Well said Bees!

I think that ends the discussion - a very obvious and winning observation.

Ah Akili Smith...what a fat bastard.

Then why build these eliborate displays? When put the manicans with the uniforms right in front of the offices? Schools know it matters.

Bling. The total picture.

I bet I can go to any school and switch out a uni. Kid would still commit to that school. Besides, unis always change. That stuff we wore this year I don't think was seen by many kids, if any, that committed last year and none that committed before that.

I agree it's a total picture but it's still part of that picture. When we went to miami they had a huge display and asked every recruit would t you like to wear these uniforms ( of course they switched to Adidas and those kids will never wear them) but the kids loved the chrome helmets. They were all talking about the colors and layout. The kids loved it. Now I bet if you had two schools you were deciding between and one had those unis and the other had the Pittsburgh throw back prison unis... I bet uniforms would make up your mind where you were going

Or they'd say - looks kind of retro. Is this your throwback?

I also love how an actual parent of an actual recruit pushes back against your oddly rigid take and you disagree with him. A guy who eats dinner every night with the kid said it mattered to him. I'm not sure your just stubbornly holding on to this position at this point. Let it go. It's not the primary reason, but it's important. ESPN did a survey and half said it wasn't the main thing - but that it matters.

I've asked honest questions. Put the SU uni with orange pants in front of them. Or put the McNabb era uni in front of them. Not one committed recruit would have not committed because of it. Not one. How many of this years class is going to be pissed in the fall when the unis aren't the same they saw when they committed? Reality.

You've talked to every recruit? Isn't that something we shouldn't do?

You've been arguing that it makes no difference. I've shown, proven and tried to be as gracious as possible in saying that you're wrong. Actual proof. In the form of a 300 recruit survey by ESPN and now a commits Dad. Last seasons #1 recruit said it might be important in the event all of the important things were even between two schools.

I'm not saying I love the new uni's or that we couldn't improve them with more orange. I've just said that it plays a minor role in a decision. And I'm right.

Would any recruit not commit if the pants were orange? Should this years recruits be upset when the unis this fall are different? Common sense even if they say the unis are dope.
