I will say this, I have no idea if we can hang with these guys

I was 6 years old when that game was played and had never seen footage of Ismail at SU until that clip. I wish I had saw him play but only know him from that stats and articles written after the fact.
I'm the same way with Joe Morris. I wish I could've seen him play. I actually started paying serious attention kind of late. It was the '90 season, so I was 13. My vivid memories really start with the '91 season.

Sure as hell hope we can obviously, stranger things have happened but I will tell you what we score first and early that ingg place will come unhinged. Hopefully 47,000 or so, I don't even know if the kids or Shafer really know what can happen to that place, little later in the day, bunch of tailgating, beers going in the dome. It will be thing of absolute beauty.

Like I said, who knows but damn am I looking forward to it!!
This is where Chris Gedney and some of the vets of the 80s and 90s give a talk to the current staff.

The thing that gets me Is how fast he was making up ground on dar dar... while running with his arms up in celebratoon.
That's the all-American hurdler speed. Dude was ridiculous. I remember when he caught a ten yard out his senior year, turned to face the DB, gave him a juke that broke his ankles, and was gone 40 yards for a TD. I think he was the first Syracuse athlete to be all-American in two sports since Jim Brown, and we haven't had another.

When Qadry caught the ball to return a kickoff, everyone stood up. I used to wonder how that game would have played out if Florida kicked to him instead. Reverse was only setup if they kicked to Richardson.

Ironically, I think Qadry only returned one KO for a TD in his career. Later that year at #1 Florida State. Put us up 14-7 in the 1st quarter (after he had caught a bomb from Graves to put us up 7-0). Unfortunately, that KO return TD was last positive thing that happened for us that day.

I remember watching that FSU game. I was so hyped after that return, then Amp Lee and Edger Bennett shredded us. If I remember right, the diving catch Ismail made on that bomb was just short of the goal line, but we punched it in right after.

I was at that game. Driving to Fla from Syr for the weekend seemed like a great idea. First play of the game was a 30 yard gain on an option pitch, then a flea flicker pass to Ismail for a touchdown. FSU had a long drive to tie the game, then the kickoff return for a TD. We were going nuts, but as Chip said all downhill from there.

Other memory of that trip was a huge rainstorm during the tailgate.

I'll never forget that at some point during the celebration chaos, before we kicked off back to Florida, I was the only person in the student section who wasn't standing on the bleachers. I was sitting down.

Because I couldn't breathe anymore. Up until that point, SU had received every last bit of noise I had in me. I wondered how they'd even get me out of there.

I recovered to get back to form for the rest of the game.

I was sitting in the 3rd tier end zone when Kirby Dar Dar took off. From that high viewing perspective I swear if the SU fans hadn't reacted in a total frenzy that Florida would still be facing the opposite direction and not one Gator would have had an inkling that Kirby was flying towards the end zone.

94 vs OU was my first game at the dome so I vaguely remember dar dar, marvin harrison, abrams and danny c.

Yes - you could see the wall forming as he took the reverse, and I (along with the other 50k in attendance) knew it was a TD before Kirby Kirby Dar Dar crossed our own 30. 4th loudest I've ever heard the Dome. 1st was Rob Moore v PSU in '87. 2nd was Michael Owens for the 2pt conversion later in '87. 3rd was the entire 2nd half of the Miami game in '92.

My first memory of Harrison was his sophomore year, Graves senior year, I don't remember who we were playing, but Graves rifled a pass to the left(?) sideline. It was high, and Harrison was going out of bounds, but he just reached up with one hand and snagged it out of the air. It was easily one of the smoothest catches I've ever seen.

That OU game was an exciting one to go to.

It sure is strange to have this level of excitement for a game. I haven't felt like this in a long time for a game. Win or lose, I am anxiously waiting to see how our new qb looks in a game against a top 5 opponent.

I want the ball first. This is easily the most excited i have been for football BEFORE a game..ever. After the 2011 WVU game gave me about the same feeling haha.
I want them to have the ball first... I don't want to have to stay quiet for the first 5 minutes of the game.

Might I suggest winning the toss, taking the ball, and going with a reverse on the kickoff to a young, hardly known speedster?

I saw that episode once against a Top 5 team from the southeast. One that never recovered from it that day.
Estime has some speed... that could get really interesting.

good point. i mean.. we could always score on the kickoff return :p
I'm not against it and would absolutely lose my cool if we were to return the opening kick to the house. I actually would applaud Shafer more for essentially saying... "We'll take the ball first. You're in our house and we're going to show you that we're bringing it."

That said, I'd rather our offense have the first 1:42 on the sideline feeding off the energy that forces the first 3 and out. 'Rome may be ready to drag a firetruck after that.

Reading that just fired me up. You've got me ready to run through a wall right now!

win or lose -leave them worse off for the experience-turn boyd into geno or any rutgirls qb- gun shy and scared

It's funny the things you remember. Because I do remember the crowd going crazy when Dar Dar took that reverse handoff. Being on the sideline, I remember thinking he hasn't done anything yet, couldn't tell that he even had that much green real estate in front of him. Then about 3 seconds later my ears broke. 20 seconds later a lung or 2 appeared to collapse.

All I could find. Relive it!

Something that's always amazed me about that play: as fast as Dar Dar was, sprinting to get into the end zone, Quadry Ismail easily catches up to him with his hands raised in the air [not the optimal body position for running at top speed].

Dar Dar was fast.

Ismail was a different level of fast.

That Oklahoma game is up there with '92 Miami, as all time punch in the gut Dome games. Throw '99 Michigan in there as well. But '92 Miami and '94 OU, I practically needed a special rehab to recover. Not just the alcohol rehab (that I also need).

Thank God I'm slightly more grown up now. Doesn't impact me as bad. Maybe I should said Gerg a fruit basket.

With a week off I am sure your coaches have put in some wrinkles, and a trick play or onside kick early on is something Iam sure clemson coaches are preparing for. That means our team will likely remain a bit vanilla on o, d and special teams at least early on. Willing to bet a beer or three in your first two series there is at least one trick play or funky reverse pass of some kind.
