They proved it in practice their freshman years by dominating. It's not like they walked through the door with the number in hand is what i'm saying.

I'm not opposed to a true frosh being offered the number as a recruit and having to prove himself in practice to wear it when he hits the field. That's markedly different from saying it should be given to a senior because he ran for 3,000 yard already.

I agree with this. I'm not in the give it to a Senior boat, I'm in the 'let's not promise it to an incoming freshman until he smokes our defense daily in practice' boat.
