to preserve his batting avergage, I hope Josh Hamilton hits 2 home runs.

If Cabrera plays and goes 0/4 then his batting average would be .3238.
If Trout goes 1/4 his batting average would be .3247.

Here are 2 declarative statements:
1. Miggy will play tonight
2. Hamilton will not hit a home run
3. Mike Trout is by far the most VALUABLE player in the Majors this year. Its comically not close

That's not right. Trout's chances of overtaking Cabrera are remote at best.

Cabrera stands at .3306 (205-620). If he went 0-5 he would finish at .3280 (205-625). Trout stands at .3247 (180-556). If he went 4-4 he would finish at .3286 (184-560). That is the scenario necessary for Trout to pass Cabrera if both play today.

If Cabrera sits and Trout went 5-5 he would finish at .3297 (185-561), still not enough.

Pick and choose?

I'll go with 1 and 2

You are correct sir. I was accidentally looking at both of their stats on grass which is what I must have been on when I posted that this morning.

I know that Miquel Cabrera has made a few mistakes, but I'm surprised more people aren't rooting for him. I don't have a problem if he doesn't want to play tonight. He's already played 160 games this season, which is 22 more than Mike Trout. In fact, Cabrera is one of the most durable MLB players. Since 2004 he has in at least 157 every year except one when he "only" played in 150. People need to give him credit. He is definitely on his way to a Hall of Fame career.

He's one of the finest pure power hitters I've seen and is absolutely on track for Cooperstown. He's still only 29, too. And he's in the starting lineup tonight.
