to regain CIC status and join the B1G, SU could merge Crouse Hosiptal into itself and instantly create a medical/research school out of the ready made facility. Combined with Upstate and Veterans on either side of it, the medical research capability could become a powerhouse of new jobs for Central NY. Probably a legitimate business decision in itself for both Crouse and SU anyway.

Crouse Hospital is currently having financial issues by the way.

Syracuse never had CIC status.
Syracuse was an AAU member. All B1G schools not named Nebraska are AAU members.
Nebraska recently received the boot and Syracuse saw the writing on the wall.

Syracuse already has a medical school, SUNY Upstate. It started in Geneva and was transferred to SU when SU was formed in the 1870s. In 1950 Cuse sold it to SUNY which still runs it today. SU had a nursing school up until the early 2000s at which point it disbanded that as well. Any creation of a medical school would require SU to work with the SUNY system. They do collaborate on some research projects and allow medical students to take public health classes at Cuse. Research funding overall is down currently across the board for medicine. Not sure that now would be the time to make that play.

The academic reasons to accept or not accept a school into an athletic conference are just leaders of academia trying to make it sound like they are not just trying to chase money/make an athletic based decision to appease the academic nerds associated with the school. Unless you are the Ivy League, does it really matter if you are taking a school ranked 90 as opposed to 50? In the grand scheme of things, is Vanderbilt being hurt from an academic prestige perspective because they are associated with Ole Miss/LSU/Miss St? Is Stanford or Cal really going to be hurt because they took Utah into the Pac-12? And anyone who cares about schools rankings outside the top 25, and more likely outside the top 15, needs to take a second look at what the rankings really mean to them.

As for the stat that was shared that the ACC and Big 10 are basically tied in the average rankings at around 50, and as the dominoes fall, one will come out on top by a few points...... really, who the hell cares? those rankings are very subjective and there is probably no material difference between a school ranked #30 vs a school ranked #80

Oh yeah...just merge Crouse, Upstate and the VA together...sure...piece of cake.

Go ahead and rub that magic wand and see what spits out

44pride - not what I said. Crouse Hospital could be available as a ready made facility and surrounded by SUNY Upstate and VA.

Anyway didnt know the history that RICuse44 brought to the table. I doubt that SU would go back into medicine if they already dropped it long ago and the nursing school too. This thread is dead in my eyes now.

Crouse isn't a teaching or research hospital.

You'd be buying a ready made money pit.
