Why is it wishful thinking? I honestly have no idea now good this team is or isn't. If we played like this against Villanova instead of sleepwalking, losing our QB and not having 2 o-lineman suit up would you chalk it up to wishful thinking? The team i saw today can compete. Run and blitz. Run and blitz. Run and blitz.
Ok I'll man up and agree with you because after watching the ND-Purdue (even though it's an in-State rivalry), ND is beatable - why? Their secondary is suspect because (injuries?) they left Purdue receivers wide open but the Purdue QB was not accurate like Hunt was yesterday or when the Purdue QB did throw a good ball his receivers dropped the ball. I also like our healthy offensive line (they looked so much different with our guards back) giving Hunt enough time to go through his progressions. No sacks that's crazy really. I just wished that CMUs RB played as they weren't the same team that beat Purdue.
If our passing game is on - it's a ball game. Now the real question is if our defense can disrupt their QB without over pursuit - NDs dual threat QB looked very dangerous in the first 2 games and in the 2nd half of the Purdue game.
The true test will be against MD. If we can limit their dual threat QB offensive production (unlike Villanova) and our offense gets even better and sharper, a prime time game may be the best thing for the program long term assuming we can convincingly beat MD next week - Go Cuse.
