number 44. He might be the last best chance to give the number some needed freshness in the minds of our fans and those across the nation. It must be worn by a "take it to the house kind of RB. I'd give GsEdwards nymber 39 for a nostalgic backfield.

I respectfully disagree with giving Laray #44. We talk about ever getting a 5 star player, well I think the only freshman that should get #44, would be a 5 star runningback.

If/when we ever issue #44 again, I think the player's character needs to me a huge consideration, perhaps as much as his athletic ability.

Yes, I agree. A 5 star running back that has absolutely no character issues.

Lets understand one thing about the star system. Its a subject ranking by a number of individuals that observe various differentiating qualities in a player. My five star may be your 3 star which if averaged out makes a 4 star. Given Laray's speed and ability to take the ball all the way which we don't have at this time I say he is at least a 4+ and 44 worthy. You can forget the previous 44s types as coming to Syracuse. That era is in the rear view mirror and probably never to be repeated. I agree character is important. We don't want our tradition being "perp walked into a squad card and perp headed "into the vehicle.

I agree that the star system is very subjective, but my point is that he needs to be a national recruit who will bring alot of attention to the Syracuse University football program.

How about if we give Laray whatever number HE wants ... probably 23.

I graded Laray out as approximately a 4.23678857o397968684368684658586376577675 star...that's just a subjective approximation based upon three days of serious film study

Why did you round off the last decimal point? Not to nitpick.

Is that wrong?

Oh yes. To reflect the true accuracy of these recruiting experts who are so knowledgeable about football that they are relegated to their parent's basement you should have atleast 44 decimal points in your star system.

Thats all you got from that post? Proof positive the star rating is lame at best and apparently contagious as well.couchburn

It wouldn't be a recruiting season without Cali arbitrarily giving one of our RBs 44 for being the fastest athlete we recruited... Add him to the list.

I dn't think that I have an anual selection. We haven't recruited "anyone who I think deserves that honor. Not AAM for sure who I thought was just another big guy woithout speed. I clearly recall that some wanted to give Delone 44 and I objected. I thought that Lynch might have been a candidate but he didn't come here. Who ever eventually gets that honor must be special. Athletically and in character. I think Laray fits at least one of those two conditions. As far as the "fastes athele" noway! I never thought for a second that Dorian Graham ever deserved to wear that number. It crossed my mind,I admit that George Morris crossed might be a kid that could inspire the fans and the team.Apparently the guy came in at a high school weight so he needs this off season to put some muscle mass on him to survive a Div1 hit. I'll let Doug figure out the one he wants to annoit as our newest legend.:p

hey bnoro...any inside info regarding where we stand with Smith?
No inside info but I'd honestly be very surprised if he didn't come here. Anything short of an Oregon offer and he's ours IMO

Bnoro, should we feel confident about getting some offensive tackles?

Without any inside info I'm actually worried at this point in time. I'm hoping we can still land Officer but even that's looking unstable...

Yikes, that IS scary. I have faith in the staff to land maybe a JUCO or two, but I was hoping that would be on top of getting Officer and Curtis.

It looks like we're in 3rd behind Wake and ISU for Curtis right now too. Hopefully we can land some kids we may not have been mentioned with like we have the last few years. Gotta make a bowl game and show some progress.

I dont know why we are struggling at OL recruiting. The OL looks great, Pugh is a strong NFL prospect, NFL looking offense, Marrone had a great rep as a OL coach in NFL. Nobody with offers seems to be giving us much of a glance. We may have to wait until next year for a recruiting payoff and comb the JUCO for a couple guys for depth to get by
