what's the best timing for the program?

I hope we wait until the end of the season, and hopefully let STBFHCSMFS go out with a BC win, but in terms of bringing on the replacement as efficiently as possible, maintaining recruiting commitments & garnering new ones, sending a strong message, and any other factors, which way to best play it?

there are rumors that the deed is done. is there any advantage to going public sooner rather than later?

It doesn't matter when it's announced it matters when someone new is hired. For the decision has been made they need to be interviewing now with the goal of having a sig ASAP. The new guy needs to build a staff and start recruiting. A lot of that can be dime without formally canning Shafer.

I'm in the camp that you don't fire a coach during the season unless there's a reason unrelated to wins/losses. But, if the decision has been made, is it possible that Coyle has discussed it with Shafer and is respecting his wishes?
He may have presented 3 choices:
1) Announce nothing, but you'll be terminated once the season is over;
2) Announce that you'll coach out the rest of the season, but won't return next year; or
3) Be let go immediately and we'll name an interim HC.

I like option #2. Hopefully Coyle makes an announcement Monday and let's Shafer coach the kids one last time on senior day.

This is why it is important that we brought in an experienced AD who unlike his predecessor is up to the challenge of doing the due diligence required to make a solid hire.

I think firing him now is the way to go. He will be able to relax. The crowd won't turn on him if things go badly on Saturday. As a fan, I like the idea of applauding him as he leaves the field.

Holy christ... we need to win on Saturday...

If the axe is going to fall - and I think it will - it has to be done soon. Need to get moving to put a staff together and salvage recruiting fallout.

I agree if the decision is final then get it over with and move on ASAP.

If it doesn't happen tomorrow then I expect him to be let go next Sunday

I don't believe the rumors but it should be done on Monday. Let a fill-in coach the team vs. BC. Can't let a meaningless win over a horrible team give people hesitation.

I think the key to the op is whether we can really start the interview process. Can some of the prospects really take interviews right now? If so, you have to do it. I think you can do it and let shaf coach the last game.

i'd let shafer coach the last game of the year ...he has earned that but wouldnt be against announcing that he wont be returning next year.

personally I'd make the announcement this week and still let SS coach out the final BC game
