If you were an NBA GM, who would you rather have

Grayson Allen will be the Johnny Football of the NBA.

100% agree. Especially with Briscoe - he shoots 13% from three and 46% from the FT line. He's good defensively but at "only" 6'2, he'd be smaller than most guards in the NBA and is basically the definition of "zero-threat offensively"

Briscoe also looks too heavy to me.

Well a couple people said that he doesn't appear on any draft boards in the first round. That's not true.
Seemed like a uninformed draft board. Looked at their 2017 draft and they had the nets with the 4th pick. The Celtics can switch picks with the Nets in 2017. If you are going to put out a draft projection, I think you should know that. Also, G at 31. I hope so but I doubt it.

Mali has limited options. First, he's not on anyone's draft list in the 1st round. That means if he leaves, he'll have to scrape by trying to make a rotation somewhere without any guaranteed money. It's not a fun life, as I think CJ and Arinze will tell him.

Second, there are a bunch of better prospects ahead of him. Mali's not an NBA 3 or PG, so he doesn't have the versatility of G -- who can claim the ability to play 3 roster spots. Mali projects as a volume SG in a year with a bunch of good (better) shooting guards.

Among those are:

1. Murry;
2. Held;
3. Valentine;
4. Possibly Allen; and
5/6. At least one, possibly 2, euros.

If he declares, don't panic. Remember under the new rules, he can declare, go to the combine and still return to school (as long as he doesn't sign with an agent).
Daniel Hamilton, Malik Beasley, Wayne Selden - to name a few more

He just oozes that spoiled brat vibe. I am probably wrong, but he is going to trip the wrong guy in the NBA.

Oh I'm cheering against him for sure and hope he tries to trip someone in the NBA. He can ball, though.

I agree, he has skills, but he is just so unlikable.

To me, Allen should be pretty far ahead of Mali on draft boards. He's stronger, a better shooter, a better ball handler, more athletic and I think he's a pretty good defender. I'm not sure why so many see him as a possible late 1st rounder only. He has the complete package for an NBA SG and is ready to contribute immediately as a shooter, at the very least. I think he's getting dinged because he looks like Ted Cruz.

Bravo!

But other than that -- I really disagree about Grayson. I'd kill to have him at Cuse, because I think he leads Duke to a title next year, but I really don't like his game at the next level. I outlined it in a post linked below.

Which is a cr@p site with ZERO credibility.

Yet a site that's been referenced before thus it's a draft site and why I disagreed with the people who said he doesn't appear on any draft sites. And while express might be better, .net is probably better than 99.9% of the experts here. Maybe Francis would do a better job, but that's it.

Exactly. I take fwiw type approach with that site because they have no real connections with pro scouts and team execs like Givony and Ford.

What is your gut feeling on Mal?

No, it's really not. It's a fan site who gives rankings. That's it. No inside knowledge at all.

You could take Mali, or you could take any of the following players. who would you take Mali over?
Jalen Brunson, Josh Hart, Daniel Ochefu, Grayson Allen, Brandon Ingram, Luke Kennard, Matt Jones, Jamel Murray, Tyler Ulis, Isaiah briscoe, Alex Poythress. and that is guys for just 3 schools.

Honestly, I think the only two with star potential are Ingram and Murray. I actually like Murray a lot.

After that you are filling a need in the rotation.

Mal could be the next guy if he fits right and performs well at workouts.

I love Ulis, but you have to construct a team to make a 5'9 PG work. If he were 6'2", he would be a top 3 pick.

It's really not. It's the exact same experts as here. Draft Express has Givony and Derek Bodner.

If Murray were 2 inches taller this would be considered a 3 person draft and not a 2 person draft because he is a perfect 2 guard.

Then people shouldn't reference it.

And you miss the broader point when someone says he doesn't appear in any draft sites/boards. If draft express is the only good one then people should say he doesn't appear there.

People here wouldn't even know where to begin doing a mock draft.

I haven't referenced it?

Just saying it's not something anyone should read anything into.

And most don't want to try. What's your point? This guy spends more time in his mother's basement looking up the top scorers on good teams in college basketball than we do?

I think he'll test the waters. Can't see anybody guaranteeing him a spot in the top 20 and even if he kills it at the combine, we're talking borderline first round at best. I would like to believe that he has more confidence in himself that he can go higher with another year of consistency shooting(37% FG is going to be a red flag for NBA peeps) and more polish to his overall game. Obviously other factors that we may not know behind the scenes such as finances and baby mamas could come into play. Not saying that's issues Mali is dealing with, but those are the type of things we tend to hear after the fact when one leaves surprisingly, ex Donte Green and Chris McCullough.

And I didn't reply to you.

Well, first of all, the thread reads: "If you were an NBA GM ...". So that invites those of us without any claimed expertise on the subject to throw out their .02.

Second, with that caveat, I took a look at the draft sites I usually consult (draft.net is not one of them), and I saw: 1) a bunch of higher rated prospects; and 2) no Mali in the 1st round. I totally confess that I don't know chit .. but that didn't seem like a requirement for this thread.
