After the blazing barn fire that summed up last year, I am damn excited again.

We just landed a solid class with major additions along the defensive and offensive lines. Two versatile, athletic and long QBs from completely random places. Every player we landed looks good, let's hope they all make it.

The IPF is no longer a figment of our imagination. It's real and open for business. Great seeing the workout pictures from inside that place. We're somewhat an official football program from a facilities' POV.

Spring ball is about to begin. The guessing of who made the greatest offseason leaps and how the newcomers may be able to fit into the equation. Who steps up for some of our departing seniors, etc.

Shafer still has my full support. He might do some mind-boggling things, but the man is passionate and I truly hope he can turn things around from last year. I hope he uses his past mistakes and turns them into positive results.

As badly as I loathed last season and had serious doubts about many aspects of this program, the points aforementioned have erased the negativity in my mind.

My temper-tantrum is over with; I cannot wait for the season opener. Good lord, it's hard to wait that long.

In Shafer We Trust.

Man it would be incredible if this season actually goes according to plan. No major injuries to starters. Hunt progresses from what we saw two years ago and this past year is nothing more than a lesson in growing up on the field and wanting it more after missing due to the injury. The new offense is more than functional and becomes downright average this year. WR show plenty of playmaking with a good scheme and weekly plan, play calling and coaching. Ishmael goes for 900 yards and 7 TDs, Erv in the slot goes for 650 yards, 6 TDs and another 250 rushing. On D, next man up and we fill holes left by the loss of 7 starters. The secondary starts off uneven due to inexperience, but the front 7 are throwing so much pressure the DB don't get exposed early and they progress to competency within the first half of the season. We end up roughly about the same on D as last year. Last year's success was scheme and attack mentality, not individual talented athletes. You can fill in with better athletes and the same scheme and attacking style and experience little to no setback. We end up so much better on O that we end up winning 7-8 games and go to a decent bowl, which we win.

Yeah - there are plenty of things to be skeptical of - and they will be hashed out over and over on this board in the next 6 months. But for me the offseason is a reset button. My wife picked on my through the whole Grob era as I always thought a 10 win season was just around the corner. I don't get the "let's be realistic" mindset that is used like a cudgel around here.

I have high hopes and I know they won't all be met. But I'll be damned if I'm going to wallow in 3-9 and expect the worse for the next 6 months. It all starts Sunday. LGO.

I'm right there with you.

I was a big fan of Coach P when he had things clicking, but I have to say I want this to work out for Coach Shafer more than any other coach in the modern era going back to Coach Mac. Coach Mac probably still my favorite, especially since he is a clone of my grandfather in many ways.

im pumped too. the one thing i think we all can agree on is shafer and staff figure out the x's and o's, then program will take off. these guys can bring in talent.

What is this based on? I'm not a recruiting expert but I haven't seen anyone that claims to be put 'Cuse in the Top 12 in recruiting in our conference.

Oh yeah, and tailgating. Yet another reason to get jacked up again.
I'm jacked up as well. If this frigging winter ever ends I'll be toodling around in CNY for the summer, am working on a ticket in 302, and looking forward to the fall.

Yet are still at or near the bottom of our conference competition.

jgeorge322: These guys can bring in talent.
CuseisintheHouse: We aren't in the top 12 of our own conference.
Me: The conference is up as a whole and we are better off than we were two years ago.
SU2NASA: We are at the bottom of our own conference.

All of these statements are true.

We've had a long history with good times and bad, and are karmatically in the mix for better times. We have a good group of kids coming in, some of which will be leaders. Have loved chatting with some parents as well and can't be anything but optimistic about the direction of the program. I think I like what we're selling. The IPF will provide some benefits and we may see #44 back on the field soon. Will this be the year we show signs of revival and resurgence? I don't want to be on the wrong side of that bet. If I'm right this time, damned straight I'm jacked.

You mean not in the top 12 in our conference based on the infallibly perfect star system that everyone relies on? Or did you do your own evaluation of all 14 teams incoming talent and decide that on your own?

Everybody has a plan until they get punched in the face. Villanova totally doused my hopes last year by punching the Orange in the face in game #1. Let's pump the brakes until we see how this team looks in early September. All this crap is window dressing for the major issue which is in game performance.

i'm still in my late November anger stage towards this program. I'm not swayed until i see something tangible on the field that changes. I'm sure many of you will feel the same way if we start out with an OT win over rhode island

If you follow recruiting you will have noticed we are competing with some high major schools, and winning some key recruiting battles. I think that is reason for optimism. Don't really care what the rankings have to say.
