I'm thrilled we get Few and the Zags

Didn't they have a big who was supposed to dominate us back in 2010?

All I remember was him looking like garbage all game and us winning by about 150.

I respect their bigs, but JB has done this before. I'm not ready to concede just because Sabonis is a player.

Hey Otto... where is the floating Cooney head at on the Shaky Potatoes meter?? Potatoes Au-Gratin today baby!!! Creamy and Silky on those threes this weekend!

How many times you going to say that? 3 threads so far.

Sorry, i was just confused as to why OP is so "thrilled" to draw the zags...its like he hasnt seen them play. Sabonis is a beast down low and averages about 12 boards a game. This is not good for us because we are not a good rebounding team. Also, Wiltjer is not a good match up either as he is 6'10 and a very good shooter which could spell trouble against for the zone.

I remember Robert Sacre running his mouth about SU being soft, prior to their Round of 32 matchup a few years ago. Didn't work out so well for him.

Who is Wiltjer going to guard?

4 losses OOC 3 in a 1bid conference. They are playing well but their gaurds will sheet the bed against us and if they can't get it to Sabonis and Wiltger what does it matter?

Sacre. He had a lot to say about SU before the game, too.

They lost to A&M in Atlantis -- they beat UConn by a few points after being up by 20 against them (UConn sucks so I guess that doesn't mean much).

Sabonis and Wiltjer are studs. Their guards aren't as good as Utah's, but Mark Few is a really good coach. I love the way zone is playing I love the way the Robey, G, Lydon and Cooney are playing -- Mali and DC are sleeping giants. This team is clearly on a mission and I don't care who we play -- we are going to give them fits.

I don't have a lot of respect for Few. But Ottoingrotto, you're thinking, how can that be? He has a winning program every season!

Well, yeah, that's true. But I don't think he challenges himself. He knows he can always compete in the WCC. I think he's a coward and doesn't want to test himself at the highest levels of college hoops. So I don't respect him. I wanted them in Atlantis, and now we're getting them in the tournament. Fantastic.

Gonzaga and Few are the next people in our way.

I see a guy who saw his predecessor get chewed up and spit out at Minnesota and figures I like it here, my family likes hit here, I make good money, can schedule any games I want and have a nice path to the tourney. I don't fault a guy who'd rather be a legend at a smaller school.

Their bigs are skilled, but they're not very physical. If Roberson stays motivated we're going to do just fine.
Agreed. They were a whisper from not even being in the tourney, from a conference they usually dominate.

I'm thrilled precisely because I have seen them play.

I'm glad I read through the thread before posting a response to the OP. You said everything I would have and more.
Not everyone needs to be at the top of the pile. If you can be happy where you are, stay with it.
We admire JB for the same characteristics and how glad are most of us for his desire to stay here.

I know it was early but they lost to UCONN and A&M. We beat them both. It's not like they are unbeatable.

Far from it, they barely got in the tourney, but they have talent, and they played as well as you can the past two games.

I'm at ease over this.

First because we are in the Sweet 16 - no matter what happens, this season is now a success.

Second because I agree with those who are saying "good" SU has a great chance of beating even "good" Zags.

Lastly, and most importantly, tonight after our win Seth Davis picked the Zags over us. So unless he reneges I am in heaven and it's not white here, it's all ORANGE.

LGO!!!!

Cheers,
Neil

I think this is a tough matchup for us similar to Pitt. I hope I'm wrong.

The Zags are not Pitt, they have no clue how to handle our zone, whereas Pitt starts preparing for the zone way in advance of playing us, also they are not nearly as physical as Pitt. Is it possible they could win yea, but any comparison to Pitt is inaccurate.

So you're saying he's content.

Yeah, remember when Austin Daye or that other big kid called Syracuse soft and then we ran out to a 35-point lead on them in 2010?

That's how I think of Gonzaga.

This Syracuse team is capable of struggling against a lot of opponents. But if that's what happens on Friday, it's more likely to be due to something we've done or not done rather than something Gonzaga has done.
