Imagine this forum being shut down by ESPN!

Being the conspiracy guy I am, I think this is more about news control than anything else. The internet is the sole open means for an incredible amount of free flowing information dispersal. Its hard to control large amounts of people until you control the flow of information (or disinformation). Surely, I can be wrong, but if I wanted to control the populous, that's where I would start.

I'm not a big conspiracy guy, but I think you're absolutely right. This is the one issue where everyone across the political spectrum should agree.

I never used to be a conspiracy theory guy but recently I think there is way more than meets the eye. The gov't has taken tremendous amounts power and control via Patriot Act and numerous other stances taken in the name of protection. This should be very scary to everyone.

I remember after 9/11 where some military and government officials posited that if we had another terrorist attack we might suspend the Constitution. And people were generally chill with that.

The only people who can take away our freedoms are ourselves, and the fact that more people aren't literally up in arms over aspects of the Patriot Act, the recent defense bill that allows the government to hold US citizens indefinitely without charging them, and now SOPA and PIPA - a bill written by and for media companies - is shocking.

Interesting because you'd think they'd want the web traffic directed to them via links.

Now if this site scoops ESPN (happens most of the time) could it effectively ban ESPN from posting the same info? Or require them to directly link this site as a source?

Sidenote - Since the Fine stuff on ESPN I have started using foxsports as my go to site. Fox have really stepped up their game and are knocking ESPN out on a lot of levels. PAC 12 contract was a big coup and just the beginning. I think Fox may end up with the ACC contract now that the ACC is able to reopen negotiations. At the very least, it will drive up the price considerably.

Not for 12 more years Oh Lord

Good thing there's one presidential candidate against the Patriot Act, NDAA, SOPA, and PIPA ... but the media said he's unelectable, so we can't vote for him.

Quote of the day: "Under SOPA you can get 5 years in prison for uploading a Michael Jackson song ... 1 more year than the doctor who killed him."

Imagine this board shutting down ESPN for garnering recruiting and team info from board members. ESPN rarely breaks news, they regurgitate or even worse, try and invent news.

Exactly, I dont necessarily subscribe to the theories in "Project Blue Beam", but by stripping away our freedoms most notably freedom of speech they pave the way to being able to control everything. By they I mean the world governments and if you're not familiar with Project Blue Beam its all about manipulating how we think by using media, atmospheric illusions and mind control. Do I believe this theory, probably not...but I am growing more and more weary of the measures being put in place by world governments.

For $75/year he can run a VPN like HMA with access to everything.

And if he gets caught with that he disappears into the Chinese prison system.

We have ivory tower bureaucrats who actually admit on CSPAN that they "don't really know much about the internet" actually voting for or even co-sponsoring these bills.

FYI, members of Congress are *not* bureaucrats. The Congress writes the laws, the bureaucrats working for the executive branch enforce the rules that they are given (and, yes, sometimes, mis-enforce them).

All that said, I agree with your position.

they would also shut down craigs list with that bill-monster cable has already prepared the paperwork to go after craigs list for reselling monster products and get it shut down when this bill gets passed-

also search engines would be able to be controlled by the govt

bill is asinine at its best-

but thats what you have when your govt is controlled by corporations and foreign govt's

FYI, members of Congress are *not* representatives. The Corporate lobbyists writes the laws, the Congress working for the special interest campaign contributors enforce the rules that they are given (and, yes, sometimes, mis-enforce them).

ftfy ;)

Lobby reform is unnecessary. Rid government of its power and purse and there will be no one to lobby to. A nation of sheep breeds a government of wolves.
