Impressed with the offensive performance

SU still lacks play-makers. Play-makers take 20 yard gains and make them 60 yd td's, and they open up the rest of the field so "slower" guys can make one defender miss and be gone.

There is a reason why Ole Miss, Baylor and Miss St are undefeated and it's not all coaching and schemes.
We saw one (ish) and maybe two (erv) on Saturday. The rest of the guys I don't think of as playmakers. Although that one handed grab by Paris was nice. He might be one at some point.

As for Saturday, it was "better", but impressed is not a word I would use yet.

Actually Broyld's reception numbers are/were right up there. Sales caught 132 passes in his 4 year career and Broyld has 7 (RB) , 52 and 11 this year for a total of 70 and 63 as a WR. If healthy, he will probably pass Sales in his 3 years as WR.

Context is very important here. Sales was glued to the bench for two years and most of a third before exploding in the bowl game. He then was a difference maker for his [delayed] senior season.

Conversely, Broyld--barring the unforeseen--is going to get a lot of run over the course of his four year career. So I'd expect the total number of receptions to be higher than Sales.

Right. I was only pointing out that there is some real talent on this team and BTW I don't think Broyld is the best of it.

My caution is that there is a major difference between potential and actualizing it.

We've had plenty of highly rated QB recruits post-McNabb that simply didn't pan out. Funderburk was the highest rated WR recruit [albeit as a transfer] that we've landed in years; on paper, he is the most "talented" WRs on the roster, but he isn't contributing jack. Last year, many proclaimed that Morris / McFarlane were more "talented" than Smith / PTG. This year, they aren't contributing much, but PTG is having a great year. I'm excited about their potential, but it remains to be seen whether either ever approximates the tangible contributions of Smith or PTG.

And right now, while I'm excited about the frosh, it is beyond premature to claim that they are more talented than what we've had. I'm very eager to see what Long / Ishamel / Custis / Philips can do, but it remains to be seen whether they evolve into difference makers, or turn out to be average.

We as a board tend to consistently overestimate our talent. Recruiting is trending in the right direction [I think], and the depth is better top to bottom, but far too early to proclaim that the talent is "better," let alone that any of it is top end. We'll see.
