In Case of Emergency Break Glass

I don't know you guys. I have refrained from participating in a lot of the discussions over the competency of this staff. Add to that I openly admit I can't be objective after this game having been played yesterday. But that was just an inexcusable and unacceptable performance yesterday. Add up the pieces of information and its difficult not to have some serious doubts. Lester spending time evaluating two recruits in person during the bye week, a number of players fumbling to answer what exactly they did in terms of preparation, our defense looking like they had never seen a spread, flying down to a difficult climate the night before, downright dog$h*t fundamentals in every facet of the game...I just don't know, but if anything there is a serious lack of focus and discipline and those start at the top. A team that has the talent deck stacked against it in virtually every substantive contest can't afford that nonsense.

B.S. - revisionist history. Already been debated and proven false but let's just keep throwing this out there.
Disagree completely. Marrone was a very good talent evaluator, but absolutely hated the business of recruiting. To be a good "recruiter," you need to be be able to evaluate talent, have a passion for it and be able to close the deal.

Um, couldn't find a suitable successor for Nassib.

Carry on.

We won 7 games with Terrel Hunt who was a bowl game MVP. Hunt wasn't nothing. Marrone didn't recruit good skill position guys but he left a really good OL with depth and a stable of RBs.

Also the D never changed so the talent should be better on D. I think our DL has good youth but the LBs and DBs have not been recruited well and who does that fall on?

I hated selling cars but I was very good at it. He did hate the business of recruiting, absolutely but I would disagree that that made him a bad recruiter. Recruits and their families always spoke very highly of him the entire time he was here. I think we are actually in agreement on this just looking at it in different ways. I know you know a lot of inside info.

Can someone explain to me why whatever Marrone did or didn't do is even remotely important today? That ship has sailed by his own decision.

LOL. This isn't really your argument, right?

Why? You think he did?

Marrone had no passion for recruiting. He had no passion for being a head coach in college. Not sure he has the passion to be an NFL head coach.

Unless Doug Marrone is being suggested for the short list What is his name in this thread?

Good question. I'm done.

Good question. I'm done.

You brought his name up by contradicting things recruits and parents have said about DM. I was just correcting false information.

I brought up Marrone because someone wanted to know what progress Shafer has made since he took over.

I said I think he's upgraded recruiting, to a a degree, over Marrone. I think the talent, in certain positions, is clearly better.

I never mentioned Shafer so stop hijacking my posts anytime Marrone is mentioned as if I'm attacking your boy toy. Jesus.

You mentioned that Marrone sucked as a recruiter was BS. That it was "proven." Maybe in your head. But it wasn't on this board.

If you want to remove the context of who coaches in a similar era at the same school then you don't even have a sliver of "proof" to stand on.

I stood up for Marrone's accomplishments just like I do Shafer's. And he was not a good recruiter, IMFingO

Again, you're wrong. Just ask the recruits and their parents. They loved Marrone and all said very similar things that recruits now say about Shafer. They liked that he was upfront with them, they felt like we had a real team environment, they liked the direction the program was headed, academics were integral part of their decision and something pushed by Marrone/staff when recruiting, he looked for "character students/players", etc etc etc.

Those are the facts. If you aren't aware of those things, that's not my freaking problem but those are absolute facts from almost every recruit and parent that Marrone spoke with and showed up at their houses.

And I've said multiple times that Shafer is a much better recruiter than DM was. Doesn't mean DM wasn't a good recruiter, just because he hated it doesn't mean recruits/parents didn't like him. We were on some very impressive players until the very last second when he was the head coach.

Bad Karma. It's like talking about plane crashes when you're on one.

Look - if you want to argue with it based on quotes from parents - I don't know what to tell you. What are they going to say? "We like Syracuse, but Marrone is kind of cold and too business like?" "We are deciding to burn a bridge to a full ride at Cuse because this guy is kind of lame?"

Bad Karma. It's like talking about plane crashes when you're on one.

Have you ever been on an airplane? It's one thing everyone on the flight is guaranteed to hear about.

How are fans discussing the pool of potential candidates bad karma?

I guess the 25th Amendment is bad karma to?

No... talking about replacing the current coaching staff has no bad Karma effect on the team just based on the definition of Karma.

"Good intent and good deed contribute to good karma and future happiness, while bad intent and bad deed contribute to bad karma and future suffering."

It's the poster that has to worry that Karma will come back around and bite them in the rear.

don't discount Matt Patricia. He wants it and would be an interesting hire who has cny ties.

My pick.

Brilliant guy with offensive and defensive experience.

CNY ties and Syracuse University experience.

Folks, this is an incredibly premature thread. Shaf isn't going anywhere any time soon.

Carry on though with the preparedness.

Agree it's early, nothing should happen this year.

What progress have we made since he took over? Not trying to be a wise ass by asking that, it's a legit question. I'm curious as to what progress you see.
RECRUITING.
