In my opinion, I do not want the court moved for duke

For all the season ticket holder snobs - you can afford to watch just one game not in your ordinary seat. Just sit back and enjoy history being made. Or at least let us commoners do so.

Typical post from a non season ticket holder. We paid already. You don't play bait and switch with the biggest home game of the year.

Count me in the camp that doesn't want to see the court moved. As a season ticket holder I like my seats just fine. There is no way to tell if the new seat would be equivalent. People were pissed at the Final 4 who were in the 10th road because they couldn't see, and you can count on a bunch of seats like this if we move the court in the Dome.

However the main reason is I want to win the game. There is no way moving the court can increase our chances. They may not decrease them either, but if anything it would be the case. It could cause a distraction, and take away the comfort zone we have from playing at home with the court configured as is. if we move the court to center then we would have the same amount of practice as Duke would have with the court and the depth perception. Just win baby.

Another smaller reason would be our ego, or at least mine. Why should we play up the game because it's Duke? They wouldn't do anything special for us.

Finally, were going to have 35k there either way, what's another 10k? There is a great chance College Gameday will be there anyway so why go out of our way?

Now I am all for doing this some time in the future when season ticket holders are notified and compensated in advance. I would also prefer this to be done for a big time non conference game, maybe against Kentucky, or Kansas or someone. I'm not for doing this for an in league game

it does seem the only people for this are non season ticket holders. I haven't met many, if there are any, season ticket holders who are all in on this.

I kinda support the idea; for one game at least. For one thing, the novelty might support an initial attendance burst. I recall one of the earliest Dome football games reaching 50,000. And then, pretty much never again. I know economics and demographics played a role in the decline, but repetition can bring it down, too. I usually hate hype, but somehow the bizarre redesign should freak out the enemy shooters more than Orange marksmen.

Also, rock concerts in the Dome about 30 years ago added large screen options for the sight line-challenged (hoops games often did this, too). Sound sucked, but that's another issue. But the point is that we shouldn't dismiss the thousands of New Yorkers who would love to be a part of something.

And if the whole thing turns out to have been a crappy idea, SU will have performed a valuable service, no? The intimate basketball arena argument has great merit, but like many of you have pointed out, it's often a home advantage. If SU's zone confuses many opponents, why not this? Of course, we'd have to get BJ, Tyler and Trevor practicing shots more often in the big cave do they don't clankify the rims too much.

bogus bush league, screws season ticket holders, and all the non fans will come. maybe mike ortiz can write a blog on this

no - Duke is not that special. Maybe JB's last game.

I wonder what the players think? I think as a player, I'd be excited to do this once and set a record that may never be broken.

I already paid for my tix and made my donation to have the seats I have with the court where it is.

I can appreciate the sentiment that people that have already paid have a certain expectation that they'll have the same seat, but I also don't think having a seat changed necessarily means that the season ticket holders have a worse game day experience. I get that some people don't want to risk it, but here's the big question - if they do it and push comes to shove, how many season ticket holders would decide to cancel their tix the next season? That's a cut throat question to ask, but I think it's a real consideration.

I think the season ticket holders who don't want to do this need to look at the bigger picture. Even if it's an inconvenience, even if it's the "biggest game of the year", you should put this aside for just one game. As a Texan 'Cuse fan, I can tell you this would be the biggest news out there during this time. Publicity would be off the charts. I already get great respect from friends and co-workers. This would really say something to them.

I wouldn't give up my season tix but would stop the extra donation made on top of the donation for preferred seats and might not bother with the paperwork needed for the matching gift.

Like I said in the other thread...act like you've been there before. Syracuse isn't some podunk program that no one has ever heard of...you don't need to resort to gimmicks to get your name out there. You are in the ACC now, and no one in the ACC bats an eye about playing Duke or UNC because they are part of the conference and it isn't supposed to be a unique occurrence.

My biggest question is why are there are only 15k ticket holders if there are so many "fans" who want to attend? So these incremental people will go to Duke because it will be an "event" but sit on their couches or head to a bar for Wake, Fla St, Clemson etc?

I like the incremental idea because it creates a demand for tickets that may not be met, it can be exceeded and perhaps some will even buy a season ticket to earn their good seating and become a fan of the team not just a fan of PR events. Aren't we handcuffing future "events" because how does it get topped? We are supposed to be playing Duke, UNC more than just this year at the dome so then what? Why is it such a big event for us and not for Duke?

It's not going to kill me either way (I can only tell after I see where my season tickets would be placed) but personally I think it's rather silly and gimmicky causing controversy before what should be a fun matchup fans have hoped for so long. Look what everyone is talking about and getting all hyped about instead of the actual game.

Just make the court bigger. Endzone to endzone. Thats what bluecurtain would do...

"You play to win the game." -herm Edwards

I don't give a where the court is as long as we win.

I think cuse should just move the court randomly each game. For example just set it up on marshal street one game. Then armory square. For road games just bring it with them

Exactly. Every word.

Also-- at risk of getting jumped on-- in the long run, why is breaking a new attendance record such a big deal? The game is important both from a conference and media standpoint, and nationally it would be the game of the weekend, but once it's over, it's over, and the only thing remaining will be a tshirt and a conference W-L in the books. What good is a gimmicky measure of fan fervor if its artificial?

I think the season ticket holders are a bunch of babies. I used to be able to go to Seton Hall, St. Johns, Rutgers, and Villanova games to see the Orange play all within an hour of where I live. We are all making sacrifices. I bet there were many season ticket holders who complained about going from Manley Field house to the Dome. How is that any different than normal Dome mode versus center-court Dome mode? As a season ticket holder, you get two different seat assignments depending on the configuration. Big deal! If you are going to be a big cry baby, "not renew", then I am sure there will be lots of people willing to snap up those court side season tickets regardless of the Dome configuration! I would go ever further and redesign the layout. Move the benches to the other side. And then make the student section the full length of one of the court sides. This way, our students can go ape crazy like the Duke at home so it's a completely unfair advantage for the home team. Some of the Dome games I've been to the townie crowd was a bunch zombies barely making any noise at all! If the Orange win more games this way it will improve the value of the Orange brand. This will mean more five star players!

I am a season ticket holder and i am 100% for this. There is no downside. This is a great idea. If you cant stoop to the level of moving your seat for one game, sell your tickets and make a killing. or ask for a refund and one of thousands of people waiting for upgrades will snag your season tix.

This game would sell out very quickly and would be THE biggest regular season college hoops game in the past 25 years.

When Manley closed, season ticket holders were told in advance that they were moving to the Dome, and everyone was given the opportunity to select their new seats ... or choose not to renew.

SU can't spring "seperate seat assignments" on season ticket holders after the fact. The renewal deadline was 10 days ago, and no mention was made of being moved to a different / worse location for the Duke game. That's false advertising.

It's usually not a good idea to piss off the wealthy alumni and preferred season ticket holders (the people that write the really large checks every year). While I doubt that anyone will cancel their tickets over this flap, it's not beyond the realm of possibility that angry people will write smaller checks to SU going forward. And contrary to your rather naive opinion, people aren't lined up around the block waiting to make $5000+ annual donations for preferred seats, so it's in SU's best interest not to alienate the current donors.

Are you even a current season ticket holder? Because if you're not part of the group of 10-15,000 people that are affected by a potential move, your opinion is irrelevant.

And the last time I checked, JB and Hop had no problem recruiting 5 star players, even with crowds of "only" 30-35,000"

Some of you guys need to settle down a bit. For all we know, we could be unranked when we play Duke. It could also be a Wednesday night game as a little "welcome to the ACC" by the ole boys doing the scheduling.

There is a downside if you end up in a obstructed view or long range view seat and you can't see the game.

Unless you don't really care about watching the game and you only came to be part of a spectacle.

The biggest regular season college hoops game in the past 25 years? Good lord man, get ahold of yourself. Snap out of it. For all we know it could be a #17 vs #25 game.

This really shouldn't be a non-season ticketholders vs. season ticketholder fight. I just wish people would give it a chance before they dismiss it completely. The game isn't being shifted over 150 miles away like football games at Metlife. If the SUAD moves the game to the middle of the stadium there will be more room for seats on the floor along the baseline and around the basket. While season ticketholders won't have the same seats as when the floor is in the corner Dr. Gross wouldn't risk alienating the cashcow program of SU Athletics if he didn't think they would get taken care. Just have some faith and if this becomes a disaster I will be the first one to criticize and say no more and I am sure the AD office would do something to alleviate if it came to that.

I agree with this post the most.

Also, the ACC move was announced almost two years ago. How are they just now considering moving the court, after season tickets have been purchased?

I'm willing to withhold final judgment until I see what the powers that be deem to be an appropriate solution for displacing season ticket-holders, but I get the impression that planning ahead has never been its strong suit.

This would be a stupid move. Why is it even being considered? Because of the name Duke on the uniforms? Duke is not the first big name team to come calling to the Carrier Dome, not by a long shot. North Carolina came with Michael Jordan and James Worthy and Sam Perkins. Phi Slamma Jamma came to the Dome with Drexler, Olajuwan, Marcheaux etc. Depaul came with Terry Cummings when they were a top team. Georgetown came many times with Ewing and Mourning etc. and it was a huge game and no one (to my knowledge) ever considered moving the court. I love the Dome, but lets be honest, there are already plenty of bad seats available. This would just make more bad seats and honestly take some currently good seats and make them bad. I've been to a Dome with the hoop court in the middle, it sucked. More isn't always better.
