In my opinion, I do not want the court moved for duke

For those vehemently against moving the court to the 50 yard line:

Would you be for it if it were say Coach Boeheim's last game?

By the way, this is a fascinating thread. So many differing points of view on something 99% of other college basketball teams could only dream about (not saying it is wrong to be against it)

It would never happen because when (if freaking ever!) JB announces his retirement, it will be after the previous season. He won't be doing the "rocking chair" tour.

How is the process executed?

Doesn't JB want the "rocking chair of broken dreams"? :D

Just read your plan. So you don't think the public should be allowed to buy tickets? Why is that?

Nope, won't be enough.

15,000 season tix.

30,000 freebie tix @ 2 per seat for season tix holders.

4,000 for students (more than they usually get).

500 for media/dignitaries/etc.

500 for Duke

Sorry, none left for public sale. Suck it up.

So many people are missing the point of doing this. Many are mistakenly saying that this is "embarrassing" for us to do this for a regular season game against Duke, act like we've been there before, why not against Georgetown for the last Big East game, etc. This has nothing to do with the fact that we're playing Duke. It's been stated in this thread but continues to be overlooked. This is about the 2 winningest coaches in NCAA history facing each other for the first time since they became so. For the first time since both being elected to the HOF. For the first time in 15 years. The first time ever on one another's home court. The first time as ACC foes. Syracuse is fresh off a Final 4. Duke is a recent NCAA champion. Both are projected to be Top 10 teams this season.

The media is going to eat this up. There have been anticipated tourney matchups with Duke in recent years, which unfortunately never panned out. There was a whole big deal a few years ago when Duke "stole" our hometown boy Greg Paulus, who then returned for one season to play QB for our football team. We just got one of Duke's transfers, who gets to play this season. This is much bigger than "just a regular season conference game against Duke". Stop kidding yourselves.

I'm a season ticket holder, who also donates to the athletic program. I will go to this game and enjoy the spectacle, wherever my seat may be. Count me in the camp of excited to be a part of this historic event. Just my 2 cents after reading the comments...

Just an awful idea.

bogus bush league, screws season ticket holders, and all the non fans will come. maybe mike ortiz can write a blog on this

It's kinda late in the game to be against whoring out college sports.

Personally, I think its a great idea and will get a ton of press/buzz

I would 100% rather do this for JBs last game, but as we've said on here for years, we'll never know when that game is going to be. So with that, I'm reluctantly for moving the court for the Duke game. The media buzz will be be through the roof and stealing some of the Duke/UNC spotlight may help to get us into that elusive "elite" category we're always debating whether or not we're in (a 2013-14 National Championship wouldn't hurt either).

As a long time season ticket holder with seats three rows from courtside, I would LOVE to see the court reconfigured for the Duke game, even if it means me giving up my proximity to the court. Increased interest, increased attendance, increased exposure are NEVER a bad thing...even if we have to give up our seats for one game. To you season ticket holders complaining about giving up your seats for one game: go cheer for someone else because you obviously don't seem to care about the long term interests of your university.

As a season ticket holder with great seats, I say go for it. It's a once and a lifetime opportunity. It will be the talk of college basketball for weeks leading up to the game and talked about for a long time afterwards. Only at SU can this be done. It once again sets us apart from the college basketball world. What a way to enter the ACC.

I am confused as to why people think that Syracuse Basketball suddenly needs some sort of gimmick for national exposure. This isn't football where we can argue that the exposture from the MetLife games to help boost recruiting is important. We are one of the elite programs with one of the best coaches, one of the best recruiters, one of the best practice facilities, and one of the best game venues in the country. Moving the court isn't going to give us any long-term boost.

We will have no issue getting 34,000 for Duke on a weekend. The game will be heavily promoted by ESPN for the JB-K match-up, and I would not be shocked if it ends up being the Saturday night Prime-time slot with College Gameday on campus. Let's make Duke face that environment with the fans breathing down their necks from a sea of orange.

If you like the idea of moving the court without temporary bleachers, that's fine. I get that it will be an experience and I don't mind trying something different from time to time, but let's not make this into more than what it is which is an attempt to try and grab more cash by the Athletic Dept

Feel better? Yea, some of us don't care about the long term interests of the university, even if some of us have been donating for as long as 40+ years.

No tickets for public sale would be the most incredible elitist move that would great terrible relations between Syracuse and the community. That would be an absolute PR and relationship atrocity.

It's a counter to the non season tix holders who think its a great idea and that the season tix holders getting screwed should suck it up. As to the PR, better to piss off those who go to a few games a year than those who are the foundation of the program.

BTW, the post you responded to was basically TIC.

Who is to say that season ticket holders would get screwed? By having a different seat for the game (which could be good)?

Sorry, I just think the general topic has gotten out of whack. This is such a first-world problem over one game on a situation that has merits on both sides of the coin.

Its physically impossible to put the court in the middle if the dome and not put most season tix holders much further away and yet keep the view available to 50k or even 45k. And if Jake a right, except for those with seats right around the court on the floor, the other season tix holders will be 20-30 yards further away. It's the biggest home game of the year, it's been paid for by the season is holder. Bait and switch isn't good PR. Like JB said, why do we want to piss off 15k season tix holders so 7k additional people can attend?

After years of a complete lack of innovation ("Can't put field turf in the Dome" , "Don't have the money for X," etc.), I 100% applaud the innovative thinking to not do things the way they've always been done in the quest to keep and make Syracuse University (Athletics) better.

If (IF, IF, IF) seating winds up sucking so bad fine...but for goodness sakes, who else has a Senior Executive Associate Athletic Director looking at all angles????!!!

The more "What if?" thinking we have for our small, private Northeast school, the better. And if seating stinks and no one can really watch, then don't do it. But if it is decided that the upside of potentially creating a once-in-a-lifetime, on-campus basketball game in our first-year in the ACC featuring the top two winningest basketball coaches in the history of the sport convinces the school that they can 1) pull it off effectively, and 2) reap the rewards of the uber event, then I hope the season ticket holders who support the program, you know...support the program on this.

That's what everyone needs to understand. Yes the Cuse program is at a very high level right now but it could go in the other direction. This is much more exciting than playing on an aircraft carrier and that was special. Not everything is a slam dunk but it's the exposure for the school that's the most important. Can't wait to see what's next.

I am not against trying something like this in the future, if we season ticket holders are informed what we are getting prior to purchase and donations. However, this season we have an implied if not actual contract with SU for the tickets in the preferred locations we have donated money for. The university in fact makes us agree to buy tickets when we make our preferred donations, I believe this fact makes it a legally binding contract between them and us. I fail to see how they can make this change without incurring the possibility of legal action. They may have some out I am not aware of, but why they would take the chance of angering their biggest supporters is beyond me.
