One of the benefits of doing it against Duke is that they are in-conference. This would be SU giving a boost to the ACC. It would be a lot of publicity and all of it would be within the ACC. SU would be building up a lot of goodwill and prestige within the conference. All of the ACC would be watching.
A potential benefit of this would then be the increased value of an SU recommendation to something like moving the ACC tourney to NYC. After SU pulls off an event of this magnitude their value and opinion would be viewed differently, better. SU would be showing they are willing to upset the old guard (see apposing views/posters above) for the benefit of the new ACC.
I certainly wouldn't say there is no chance. Because the quicker this is done the sooner the benefits are realized. Also, I think a lot of the powerful opposition to this idea may be alleviated when SU floats out a seating arrangement. Because aren't there going to be more luxury boxes available?

i don't think you can risk losing your home court advantage for an in conference game. It takes too much of a chance of causing a distraction to the players, and they lose the home court advantage of being comfortable with the current settings going up against a school that has never played in the Dome. I just don't think it is worth it to add another 10k seats. I think the ACC will be happy enough with us squeezing 36k in there. If they want to get the attendance they should let the fans sit in the opposite end zone
That's not even mentioning the potential of season ticket holders getting screwed.

This is something special that only we can do. People lament not having X or Y for football, or the largesse of other programs. Well for this night we can blow everyone out of the water. And if stuff like this saved us from The American then so be it. People complaining about the AD is laughable, considering the alternative could've been SMU and Temple and ECU on Texan's rabbit ears from his camp.
It would be a hell of a show, and it would lay down our marker in our new conference. We're in the process of trying to get our new conference tournament out of Greensboro and into MSG. It's exciting to see us be innovative after all the years of seemingly being stuck in reverse, and the worst is maybe some people get some not so good seats in comparison to other not so good seats.

If this had been any part of discussions with ACC, then the powers that be could/would have done this before season holders/donators paid for their seats, and it would not now be an issue. Therefore this was not planned for ahead of this season and had nothing to do with our entrance to the ACC.

From the conversations at the time and Nancy running her mouth about games at MSG, no one knows what SU's powers that be told Swofford, etc. My point is they could've thrown the kitchen sink at them for admittance, and this would be part of that.

No, that isn't what I said.
What I did say is that no one really knows what TWO and TGD said...remember her words about conference games at MSG? I am sure they said as many things as possible to make us stand out - and to cover up the football slog post 2001. 50K hoop games stand out.

SU had the season attendance crown for 2o12, the ranking you linked was based on averages.
Second, doing the Duke game mid-field would lock up the average attendance crown for 2013.
I think a lot of people are no longer impressed by the scam of largest on-campus crowd because SU creeps out its capacity. That act is getting old. Breaking the record in significant fashion would add some juice.

The notion that Swofford deciding that Syracuse should get in the ACC hinged on them putting a Duke BB game in the middle of the Dome is not just hard to believe, but patently ridiculous.

Does anyone know if the court could realistically be moved to midfield without impacting the sight lines, and without a temporary renovation to the lower level like at the Georgia Dome?
I'd venture to guess that moving the court might elevate SU to #1 in attendance for next season, but that in 14-15 SU would drop lower than 2nd. The more I talk to season ticket holders, the more I hear how pissed they will be for having paid without being told about this possibility.

The Dome was built for football and those seats are on the field. It's really not that big a place.
The Astrodome looked like Shea Stadium with a lid - which would be wretched for a hoop game . Other than both being indoor venues they're really dissimilar.

It's bigger than you think. If the Astro Dome concept is used, my seats either become exactly 43 yards further away, become seats behind the basket vs near mid court, or become totally different and still end up much further away and not near mid court.

wouldn't moving the court hurt us from a competitive balance sort of way? I mean our kids are accustomed to the sight lines of the Carrier Dome. Moving the court would change that. I am also against the move because we don't need to do it. We will break the record without it.
