Lots of reasons for this. But teams have to play 40 minutes to be successful. Each game is different but there are a lot of commonalities. Biggest ones are being out coached and out hustled. That, and not playing smart.

Clemson -2 LOSS
GT -4 WIN
PITT even WIN
FSU +5 WIN
BC -5 LOSS
VT -9 LOSS
MIAMI -4 LOSS
NC STATE -16 LOSS

On the bright side, I suppose it Could still be worse…

its basically because when the other team actually tries hard and has their best team out there for winning time, we have NO chance.

We come out literally every second half looking like a team that has completely forgotten how to play basketball. Zero adjustments. Atrocious passes and lazy dribbling leading to many awful turnovers. A shocking lack of effort on the defensive side of the ball.
I suspect some of this comes from the awful half time adjustment session led by the coaches. I don't think Autry can verbalize what he would like different...assuming he has noticed anything he would like different. His speech is probably some version of the below. All starting with "You know"
  • we've got to fight like we talked about
  • JJ, I want you to be more aggressive you only have 10 shots
  • limit the dips and Level 5 for 20
  • Looks to Luke and says i need you to keep the station juiced
  • William, I want you to set the pick out even farther. go beyond the 3 point line

Then he asks the assistants if they have anything to add and they all shrug their shoulders

It has to be the lack of adjustments combined with not understanding the adjustments the opposing head coach is going to make and accounting for and proactively preparing for during halftime.

The years are starting to run together but it was quite strange how many close games we have that become huge blowouts in the dying minutes. Statistically too significant to be luck

Lots of frustration from everyone connected to the program: Coaches, administrators, players, managers, families, fans, broadcasters, media that cover the team.

It's weird because all of us are fans of other teams that have been thru losing streaks. But this one seems different. Maybe because its been a long downhill slide.

I don't blame "fans" that aren't going or aren't watching anymore. It took me a long time to see your point, but now I do.

The half started with a bad shot that found its way to George who said I know I'll take an immediate long distance 2 off balance

At least I think that's who it was. Who can watch intently, I'm mean seriously

80% of our problem is we are just way dumber than other teams and take more selfish shots

We throw away a quarter of our possessions

It was George. I commented in the game day thread that Red should yank him when he did that. Absolutely stupid shot. Pull him for a minute and let him know. Boeheim would have lit into him for that.

Red should ask George if he really wants to hurt him and make him cry.

The sad thing is there is probably some truth to this. Oh well, it will be over soon.

for me it seems a bit simpler . and it hurts to say it but. there is no pressure to win at syracuse anymore. we've simply embraced our lesser also ran status . sadly.
Feels like the empty dome, and students booing/chanting to fire our coach begs to differ in regard to pressure to win at cuse.

Yes, there is still a lot of passion. If the Syracuse basketball program can ever get back to its winning ways, then the Dome will be rocking again. Get us the right head coach.

With the addition of
  • Nait - I want you to be looser/more careless with the ball and take more ill-advised shots

Unless it was one of his pets like gmac, Buddy or JGIII. Then he would've yanked one of his whipping boys and chewed them out for some imaginary transgression.

^This

It clearly reflects lack of halftime adjustments to what took place in the first half as well as in game (2nd half) adjustments in response to what the other coach has switched up after halftime.
You know - the thing good coaches do well and bad coaches can't seem to do (i.e. Red)
