Villanova Georgetown and Providence it was clearly a mistake to allow the basketball only schools the same voting rights as the football schools. The management blew this as did the then member schools and their ADs. dumping Temple was the right thing to do at the time but not providing for a quality replacement was just another big mistake that added to the eventual collapse of this conference born of great thinking but then neglected after it started walking.:bat:

So, up-and-coming "power house" Yukon was no better than banished Temple?

Remember, this was arranged before the first ACC raid.

no one ever did a highbrid like the big east tried- and made a lot of mistakes because of it

thing is they never ever learned from the mistakes-they had plenty of time to change things for the better and never bothered-it was easier not to do anything than think about the future in a proactive way

I could be wrong, but wasn't L'ville on the BE drawing boards to replace Temple? They were a pretty hot program about the time Temple got the boot. When the ACC raid happened, it became UL + 2, out of necessity. UConn was also being considered as a future member, but not until state funding of the Rent came into the play. I think BE FB was always destined to be 9 members, with TU out, and UL and (eventually) UConn in.

UConn was scheduled to join the BE long before the ACC raid happened. The Rent opened in 2003 ... so state funding had been arranged long before. UConn started FBS play back in 2000.

Louisville and Cinci weren't part of the picture until Miami and Va Tech left.

USF came along months later after BC announced their intentions to leave.
