Indiana - uh yeah

My thoughts on Indiana football being successful

It’s essentially already ripped up.

Making the CFP semifinal triggered a “Good Faith review” clause in his contract. Indiana has to work with him to make sure he’s no worse than the 3rd highest paid coach in the country or he can choose to walk with no buyout.

With Kiffin’s deal, he’s now 4th.
Make him 1st

Indiana looking like 2019 LSU at this point. They should rip up Cignetti’s deal and pay him even more
He's got a crazy deal he signed a few game into this season with his 8 year extension. He gets a guarantee to be at least the 3rd highest paid coach in football and it's evaluated after every season. That's bonkers.

How about Indiana signing both their coordinators starting at 3 year $3M increasing each year and the other coordinator at $1.7M.

They’ve both been with Cignetti since he stared 10 years ago at IUPUI. That stability in a program is huge, not to mention the amount of money his coordinators are getting.

The 8 four stars also doesn’t tell the whole story. 8 HS four stars, but they’ve signed a number of high profile portal transfers.

I said it in game thread. If they win it all it’s arguably the best team in college football history with the best coaching job in college football history. Who they have beaten, how they have beaten them, this is unreal. And I mean this would be like cuse playin for a Natty right now. Wild
We’re talking about INDIANA football. Let that sink in. Indiana football, people. I’m not sure everyone appreciates how irrelevant Indiana football has been for my entire lifetime and my parents and grandparents lifetimes. They’ve been the most futile program in the Big 10 for its entire history. Before Cignetti, they had a grand total of two winning seasons since 1994. And before that, it was even worse. Like FUTILITY. They had never won more than 9 games in a season EVER. In 1967, they went 9-2 and went to the Rose Bowl. That’s it. That’s the high water mark of their history. The overall record of the program is 514-719, two hundred games UNDER .500! Other than the past 20 years, Syracuse’s football success dwarfs Indiana’s, and even Cuse has had a few really good seasons in the past 20 years. As someone else said, Cignetti is like some kind of magical wizard, or maybe Voldemort.

Wow, I was really tempted to pick Oregon with the money line. They seemed like a team on a mission and the first matchup was close. Glad I didn’t.
I bet Indiana on a small bet to win the championship early in the game when they were up 14-7. Got -113. Wishing I would have bet a lot more. It’s now -335.

Ok…can we all now agree Indiana is gonna steamroll Miami too?? Others have told me not so fast…

Oregon has 55 4 and 5 star recruits. Indiana has 8.

Indiana is making everyone else look silly and getting better very game.

Cristobal is gonna get schooled big time on top of whatever coaching wizardry voodoo that Cignetti is casting right now…
Kinda like a magic potion…..hmmm witchcraft anyoneee.
Maybe instead of the love potions that’s wicked witch is brewing something more dangerous.

This, but there’s more yet lol. They have an army of proven over-achieving 3-stars that were clearly selected to match skillsets.

IU played moneyball, and they played it with a huge budget to boot. Incredible. I already can’t wait for the inevitable 30 for 30 on this team.

IU did not play moneyball. They paid $2.6M for arguably the top portal QB last season in Mendoza. Their defensive and offensive coordinator make $3M and $1.7M per year, respectively.

Pat Coogan was one of the top IOL portal transfers. He’s probably the best center in CFB. He started 13 games at Notre Dame’s 2024 team that made the championship game.

Their RB Hemby was close to a 4star RB pick up from Maryland.

They were also able to retain key role players who were in their 4th and 5th years of CFB.

That stability in coaching and roster retention is huge and could be key moving forward. Culture and team chemistry is huge, but i certainly wouldn’t say this is a moneyball approach.

Not sure it was clear what I was saying. Not moneyball as in cheap, but as in the best player for the money and not the most expensive player available. Mendoza was probably 3rd or 4th. They could’ve paid more for Mateer ($3m) or Beck ($4m), they didn’t, and it would’ve been a mistake if they had.

Basically, they were both high rollers and also smart with their money at the same time. They maximized everything.
