Indiana - uh yeah

I think you also have to credit Mendoza. He is something else, and his personality keeps that team together. Yes, it didn't work for him at Cal, but it is a part of the equation at Indiana. Also CIgnetti respects his players. Something I don't necessarily see at SU.

Cignetti is a great coach. Indiana was totally prepared and never took their foot off the gas.
This can’t be overstated enough. It is really impressive he can get his guys to keep going all out despite the huge lead. It’s so common to start coasting to the finish line or go into a prevent defense. I thought Oregon might make a little run down 42-15 and driving but then IU stops them on 4th down and puts up 2 more TDs.

Looking forward to the title game.

He also demands a lot from them, which is why he never looks happy.

The announcers kept saying that Cignetti values production over potential when it comes to the portal.

Seems like a no brainer and its why I'm a bit bullish on our portal haul. Production, starters, top players albeit at lower levels.

But college level production matters, we just landed a defensive player of the year kid.

Well, sometimes both things work. Meeks wasn't brought in based on production and really Angeli wasn't either. Meeks was a homerun and Angeli was heading that way before he got hurt.

I do think we need to try both. We had Grant work out but so far IMO it hasn't for Bryant. So it isn't a sure thing.

Meeks IMO was a bit different because Fran saw him every day. Angeli had plenty of non garbage time PT. I would say Cook worked out, but he might be the only one that was a pure portal potential guy.

Generally the players who were with our staff at their prior stop have been fine, while the kids mined from the portal have not worked out thus far. Grant, JRS, Cook, and...? Dino seems to have had more success.

Seems like we have shifted a bit this year to prior production. I do think taking the FSU kid was a bit odd given all the WRs we have and his lack of production.

We still need 1-2 QBs, 1-2 on the OL, 1-2 Ss who all should be experience guys.

He would have chosen Indiana over SU. I don’t think people question that.

But it is legit to question if we even went after Cignetti at all. He was at JMU. He wasn’t highly sought after. His season was over before Indiana even fired their HC.

Would we have lost out? Yes. Did we even try? That is unknown. What if Indiana had gone for a hotshot coordinator instead?

C’mon man…that’s even more ridiculous than complaining we didn’t hire Cignetti.

Who the hell cares if we went after him, if there was 0.0% chance he was coming here? “We didn’t get him, just like we knew we wouldn’t - but hey we tried”? Knowing that would make all the difference in the world in how you view Wildhack?

Seriously, some of you guys just want to be miserable and can’t step back to recognize how absurd you make yourselves look as a result.

Based on the broadcast last night, this is only part of the story. I swore I heard Sean McD say that Indiana was not a deep team, and to make up for that Cignetti and his coaches have guys trained to play multiple positions so that they can keep experienced players on the field. He is using many unorthodox methods to manage this roster. It’s incredible and it’s working. If SU tried the same thing, we’d have confusion all over the field. Cook couldn’t even play his own position.
Yes, I heard that also. He said something like they only play 13 players on D. I thought that was crazy but somehow they make it work.

Why was there 0% chance? He wasn't a hot commodity. We had a head start on the coaching carousel. The chances of him coming here were much higher than you making a quality post.

I’ll say this again, we have the right man leading Syracuse Football! It’s great for Indiana they have Cignetti, it’s great for UCLA to have Bob Chesney. Fran Brown is exactly what we need at Syracuse!
It’s a “what have you done for me lately” with a side of “grass is greener” combo mentality these days.

I’m still glad Fran is our coach. He’s going to keep grinding to improve and succeed.

Indiana looking like 2019 LSU at this point. They should rip up Cignetti’s deal and pay him even more

Or, simply work on his marketing prowess. I mean, at game's end when being interviewed by Ms. hottie Molly, he needed to say "I just want to crack open a Bud" vs. a "beer." 😜

The FSU kid is the one potential kid. But hes a redshirt freshman with an NFL physique (6-4 205) and a top 100 player two years ago. He's a kid you take a chance on.

Cignetti was never, ever, ever going to sign a contract with Syracuse. Not. Ever. And that was pretty well understood even on this board in 2023 when we were looking for a coach. Would we have wanted him? Absolutely. But - it wasn’t going to happen.

Stuff like this is why I have a hard time taking people who criticize Wildhack seriously. “He should have done something we knew was impossible at the time!” It’s just fans looking to be miserable and inventing absurd reasons to justify that.

ya JW is a great AD. Overseeing this awesome stretch of football, basketball and lacrosse is quite the feat.

You JW fanboys are even harder to take seriously. Your like the North Korean citizens that think Kim Jong Un is a great leader.

We absolutely could compete with Indiana (the historically worst P5 team ever) for his services if we could come up with the money.
The tires were kicked on Cignetti. He was not interested. This was said and known back in 2023. Cig was only going to leave JMU for a Big Ten school with deep pockets. Indiana had a poor history, but was committed and had a massive alumni base that was becoming engaged. Just stop, Cuse will never have the money or resources to pull someone like Cig. Chesney and Fran were the two we could have gotten, and they were the two finalists we chose from.

Cig was one of the hottest commodities in the coaching carousel. SU is a private school with a small alumni and donor base. Indiana is a massive state university with an enormous alumni and donor base - history does not matter when it comes to money and resources. No one cares that we won a national championship in 1959. We can't coulda, shoulda, woulda our way to more money.

I agree with all of your reasoning, but he was not one of the hottest commodities.

Also SU kicking the tires is news to me. Thanks for the info.

I suppose when your D gets off the field, they don't get tired.

Indiana is a massive state university with an enormous alumni and donor base and Mark Cuban - history does not matter when it comes to money and resources. FIFY.
