Instead of playing 2 more teams with RPI's above 200, some MWC schools played non-Dv 1 opponents. Non Div 1 opponents don't figure into your RPI.
The ACC (for example) had 6 games against non D1 schools (0.5 per team), the MWC had 14 (1.5 per team).
What makes this even more important this year is how closely the committee stayed to RPI rankings. I didn't realize the correlation until I read this article. If there ever were a year to inflate your RPI, this was it.
Kudos to the MWC for exploiting this loophole. And yes, we benefit too, since UNLV would certainly have been seeded lower if the Non D1 opponents were figured into the MWC SOS.
