interesting game

What a frustrating game. Another typical Babers loss. We know the book on him by now. Undisciplined team. Bad, "unforced" penalties that kill drives and/or prevent having a chance to win. And since Justin Lustig left, below average ST.

Remember the calls for Beck as the next HC? Is he even a reasonable P5 OC? The offense looked like the second half of the season. Not not able to attack down field with any consistency, lots of side throws/runs that don't go anywhere, OL unable to pass block, dependent on great running by the QB to produce anything, large portions of the game with no effectiveness - nearly the entire 1st half.

Special Teams - Can SU offer a pile of money to Justin Lustig and hire him back from Vanderbilt, please?

Another typical Babers loss wherein Syracuse gave the game away more than Minnesota was taking over and winning it.
Trolls gotta troll.

Would love to know why beck wasn’t wearing a headset. That field was absolutely awful. Allen will be good. Love GS heart and fight. Overall it’s about what I expected other than the play calling component which I would love answers on
Thank you - glad someone brought this up finally.

How is the new OC not wearing a headset, and chit chatting while sipping water during an offensive drive...???!

Was Babers calling the plays?

Can’t wait to see this new punter that we picked up from Missouri. I’m sorry but it’s desperately needed at this point. Like, situation critical type of needed.
I don’t think I have ever seen as many shanked punts as I did this year. Every time we needed to change field positions one of the punters would come on and shank it off the side of their foot. Punters are overlooked sometimes in the game of football. But they can be a weapon when they are able to flip the field position.

It has been brought up multiple times, in multiple threads over the past two days. Someone who knows posted in the game thread that it was confirmed that Beck, NOT Babers, was calling the plays.

Maybe but his throw to Allen over the middle was bad, and he severely under threw the free play due to their offside. He's not accurate.

He’s not Montana but he isn’t Perry Patterson either. GS did what he normally does in the passing game, some really nice throws and some head scratching ones. The difference is he did next to nothing running the ball. He took a massive leap forward this season when healthy. If he continues to improve and gets healthy he will win us games next year.

My vote for most uninformed post of the year! Just got it in before end of year but it would have won in 2023 too.

I have a feeling we should enjoy Beck next year, because he will be in high demand after next season
Yeah that's going to be a bit of a problem. I wonder if Beck tries to mentor Koy Detmer Jr to help develop a tree here for continuity. Get him involved in helping the QBs, work with him on game planning and such.

Silver lining to Anae leaving is that Beck surely would have been in high demand as an OC elsewhere as early as 2023. Now the potential next line on the resume is either a coordinator slot at a high Power 5 program or a HC spot. I think he may be two or three years away from that and, if all goes exceedingly well he may be ready to step in to the top spot of a stable and successful Syracuse program when Dino decides to step down.

Frankly, you can make a similar argument with DC as well. White has aspirations to be a HC or NFL coordinator and felt the connection with Rhule gives him an opportunity to extend his network to realize that goal. Chances are he was no more that a year or two away and would have been moving on anyway. And Monroe’s profile as an uber recruiter certainly had him on the brink of bigger things elsewhere.
Thought Monroe called an outstanding game and now, having Rocky on board to mentor for a year or two, the scenario is close to ideal.

I’m not convinced Dino steps down anytime soon. It’s not like he’s unhealthy, 80 yrs old, being helped around the field. It’ll be interesting what transpires the next few years.

Apologies. Tough to sift through 40 different pages on the Gameday thread, and every single other thread created during and post-game.

The shot of him without a headset during an offensive possession does leave questions unanswered to me.

If Dino is here in 2-3 yrs and Beck is getting calls then we are in a much better spot than we are now.. Beck is only getting calls of the offense gets better which also means the team is probably playing well.

Who knows. He will be 63 next year and is a deeply family oriented individual. Could see him enjoying a long retirement with his family more readily than coaching into his late 70’s. Likely somewhere in between I imagine.

I just don’t see it happening in the next 2-3 years, based on nothing at all except my opinion and how these older coaches don’t know anything else but coaching. By then we’ve lost Beck most likely but maybe Monroe is still around and he’s the coach in waiting.

From what I have been told he does a lot with qbs
