IIRC the crazy thing about not inviting Bucknell in 1996 was that there were no representatives on the Committee from "the traditional powers." It was all reps from small schools. I could swear that I saw a quote from Desko that he assumed Bucknell was in and was shocked when they didn't get a bid.

Of course, the Terps ended up getting burned by the addition of AQs and no increase in tournament size in 2002, when they missed the NCAA tmt with a 9-4 record.
So maybe Yow, wasn't as clueless as you think on this matter.
