I thought a thread from quotes from other coaches may be interesting.

Any quotes, inspiring ones, funny ones, of particular interest may be quotes by other coaches who might have criticized their players, positively or negatively, in public so we can compare.

I'll start with three.

“Make sure that team members know they are working with you, not for you.”
– John Wooden

“My responsibility is leadership, and the minute I get negative, that is going to have an influence on my team.”
– Don Shula

“There is another side [to ego] that can wreck a team or an organization. That is being distracted by your own importance. It can come from your insecurity in working with others. It can be the need to draw attention to yourself in the public arena. It can be a feeling that others are a threat to your own territory. These are all negative manifestations of ego, and if you are not alert to them, you get diverted and your work becomes diffused. Ego in these cases makes people insensitive to how they work with others and it ends up interfering with the real goal of any group efforts.”
– Bill Walsh, American Football

I need the respected heights of each bolded quote.

I see what you did there.

Ok how about this?

“He looks like a woman’s coach sometimes. I guess he’s just trying to get into certain people’s heads, but it won’t work with me. Like a woman who coaches and cries all the time. He can’t get in my head. He’s a crybaby.”

Shaq, 7'1" bare feet, on George Karl

"The ceiling is the roof"
-
Michael Jordan Shrug GIF by NBA

"he’s so good that he can take his’n and beat your’n or he can take your’n and beat his’n"

Bill Walsh and Marv Levy having a conversation must have been fun to watch. Two very intelligent leaders of men.

Not a coach, but fits here

Praise by name, criticize by category.

Those are all good. But, we don't know what these guys were doing and saying when not writing books or doing interviews. I'm sure JAB has some good quotes, as well.

But, yeah—point taken. Seems like these should be the objectives, and our coach is publicly working in a different direction.

“I’m better than Brandon Reese.”

Bjorn Calderon - the best to Eva do it

Playoffs? Don't talk about—playoffs?! You kidding me? Playoffs?! I just hope we can win a game! Another game!
