Memphis transfer Antonio Barton getting heavy interest thus far. Maryland, Kansas State, Texas A&M, Tenn. Also told Syracuse may be in mix.

Barton is a Baltimore kid, 5.6 ppg, 1.3 rpg, 1.1 apg in 17.3 minutes per game. Shot 40% from 3 pt range, and plays 2-guard. I think he would be eligible next year with 1 year to play.

Unless he can play point, I don't get this at all. We have a ton of 2s already. Wouldn't he be 2014? Unless he's eligible in 2013 and can play PG (which I doubt), how does this make any sense?

I was wrong he is a PG.

Antonio Barton and Tarik Black, Memphis
Both Tigers will be eligible to play next season after graduating, and both should provide some help to the right team. Barton suffered an injury that derailed some of this past season, but he could be a decent plug-and-play one-year patch for a program that needs an experienced point guard.

I'd be shocked if this happens but it would be a good move...if he's willing to play 10-12 minutes a game to take some of the pressure off TE, this would work out well. I think we have a schollie? Still, you'd think the kid would go to a situation where more playing time is available.

Barton would be a solid one year backup option at the point. Only concern is that a school like K-State has no depth at the guard position and he could seek plenty of minutes at a place like that.

I'm pretty sure he's boys with CJ as well...
“People are saying we’ve got one of the best classes in a while,” Fair said of Baltimore’s 2010 group. “We were close all the time [growing up]. “Me, Will Barton, and his brother Antonio Barton, we all grew up playing together. We were playing with each other since we were 8 years old.

Hook it up CJ!!!

if he'd be willing to accept such limited minutes, great, why not. we have the scholarship available, and i think he's a decent ball handler who can shoot the 3. but i don't see ennis or gbnije or cooney or patterson leaving after this year. not to mention BJ might get some minutes at the 2. so i'd prefer to see us first try to make either patterson or gbinije work spelling ennis at PG to free up some minutes at what's a very crowded SG position.

Barton only has 1 year of eligibility left. I'd definitely take him over "trying out" Buss or Silent G at backup PG.

This pickup may be Cooney insurance and lessen the pressure on him as he will be the returning guard with the most experience. I like Trevor and believe by his Senior year will be a stud, but Barton could be a combo guard playing PG with Cooney and SG with Ennis and be a cog for another Final Four run.

Trey Zeigler is transferring from Pitt? Wow... That was quick...

Really... Who are all these wahoos that keep coming out of the woodwork lately... A la Whitehead tweet too...

We were interested in Barton at one point back in HS and cooled on him (might have been grades can't really remember). I would highly doubt we would bring him into the mix.

Sounds good to me if the kid would be willing to play backup minutes for a title contender. Could be the perfect last piece of the puzzle.

Doesn't look like he'd be eligible next season. He doesn't really fill the backup PG hole for next season, but whatever.

I believe it said that he will be graduating in May, thus making him eligible to transfer and play next year.

I think it would be a positive addition. Backup PG with experience and can shoot the 3? Eligible for next year only? Sign me up. Maybe coming off his injury he realizes the NBA isn't in his future and would like one last hurrah playing with one of his boyz on a FF contender. Otherwise I'd figure there is more PT available elsewhere.

There have been a few transfer possibilities brought up here and this is the first one I think might be somewhat realistic.

I will say this, Boeheim is picky about bringing in transfers. I dont think he'd do it unless he thought Barton could compete for the starting job or that nobody else can handle back up point minutes.

Its risky because Barton would have to come in and learn the zone straight away, meaning he would play some pretty bad D to start and not have three years to make up for it the way Ennis and Patterson will.

Still Barton has all the qualities you think you'd need. Experience. The ability to hit threes. Tall enough to play in the zone. It seems like a possibility if Boeheim is interested.

I agree, he sounds like a good fit, provided he understands his likely role as a 10 mpg backup.
