Interview with Fran coming up in about 30 minutes

I agree, those days are over and I’m very thankful for that. That is a very misinformed or saying they do not invest.
Although I will continue to remain anonymous, nobody bled orange more than me. If you are correct that If those days are over, then I guess that is good news. But that acknowledges that there was a "those days," as I saw and perceived.

It was pretty widely circulated that Nebraska offered him in the neighborhood of $2M -
That’s a nice neighborhood!!

And more than a few “people who know things” related to Cuse football have said that he got over $1M to come here.
(IIRC some said it was more like $1.5M in total).

Kyle himself said the relationships and the opportunity were the most important part of his decision.

So while we certainly didn’t lowball him, we also didn’t have to match his highest offer.

But I’m just a guy on a message board,
and I didn’t even stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night,
so take my opinions with a pound of
Salt potatoes.
All of the above and UNL's offense was not really friendly to a QB like McCord. Could he have had similar numbers? Possibly. SU Offered a an offense geared to McCord's talent, with proven stars at WR and TE so he had targets and a solid bench of targets. The O-Line was not special but adequate. All in all, McCord made the right call for McCord...and SU!

Many of us remember the lean days and of little to no institutional support. The last 20 years have seen greater investment in the AD as a whole with some poor decisions in key coaches. The school has shown they will make changes and seek better coaches. Desko, with several NCs to his credit was failing in his last years, SU made the change. JB was failing in his last years, SU made a change - It appears they need to make another change. In football, they had some bad circumstances and made some bad choices but they got Marrone and now Fran. Even Dino improved SU from the SS years, though he did not get is where we wanted. Is SU perfect, no! Yet the board knows what it wants and is seeking it.

Again, nobody will dispute the bad support years - and to be sure, SU was blessed with JB and PP because they worked through the bad years in spite of the then leadership and were winners. The ship has been/is being righted and SU takes this matter seriously.

OK. Simple question... did we offer the most NIL for McCord or did he come here at a discount?
Someone offering more than us is not the same as coming here on a discount, especially when we offered a better opportunity for him to further his development and be better positioned for transition to the NFL and the draft.

I think the good news is Fran might not be able to pay the most, but he's developing a culture kids want to be a part of. at least that's how I'm thinking about it.
There are kids who are not fooled by the big money and want a pathway to the pros. I suspect inten years research will show that most of the kids taking big paydays chasing money don't make it to the pros or don't make it in the pros.

Essentially, this is a full scale version of the SEC where many kids look great on video but cannot hack the pros or life. They never earned a degree, though often they certainly received a degree without earning the degree. The SEC kids have natural talent but little discipline and little between the ears. Too many "student" athletes in the profitable sports are not qualified students.
