We didn’t have to play 3 top 10 teams in either of those tourneys. We played some good teams but they weren’t this good. I’m skeptical of Red’s abilities as a coach, especially on offense, but you still have to have some perspective on the gauntlet of top flight teams we were dealing with this week.

This has pissed me off more than anything else minus this last half .

If that dumbass with his chicken legs can walk he should be in a damn uniform ready to shoot free throws. I know it sounds ridiculous but we are in ridiculous times. I don’t care just having the potential of him coming into a game in the Houston and Kansas game might at least make the other coach have to think.

There is a legit black cloud over this program right now. Injuries and Autry and players being a mess.

Fair. I did rough research on our toughest stretches in the OOC over the past 30 years.

We played two top 25 teams when we won Atlantis in 2015. We played one ranked team when we won Maui in 2013.

Whatever tournament we won in Kansas in 2008 included us beating Florida and Kansas who were both ranked in the top 25.

In 2004 we won a tournament(preseason NIT?) where we beat Memphis and Miss St both ranked in the top 20.

In 1995 we played Arizona, Illinois and UMass all ranked in the top 12 over a 4 game stretch.

This is at least our toughest 4 game stretch in the OOC in 30 years and maybe the toughest stretch ever. That said in 95 we won two of those 3 games, but it was probably one of our best teams ever.

Just posted about this on the other thread Sherman. Great minds posting tonight.

The old man let alone Pitino or Self or Coach K never have seen draws like this in November tourneys that we just had. There’s always a lower seed game first or a cupcake at the end or at worst an equal opponent. What we got this week was something else.

Autry was able to play the fake it til you make it game until about Wednesday at 1130 AM then the wheels fell off.
 
If it makes anyone feel better—it probably won’t—Gonzaga gave up 59 points to Michigan in the first half. So even very good teams can have letdowns against better teams. The Zags, who beat Alabama, are now losing by 44 to Michigan. That said, Michigan has an absolute monster squad this year and is my pick to cut down the nets in March. No one is gonna stop them. FWIW, I think Iowa State is better than the Zags.

Excellent write up. I looked into the same when I saw Kansas won today.

Now if we do the math on it all in 45 hours. Even when half the big east was in the top 10 playing at the garden for the tourney, game 1 was always a cupcake. No one ever played #3 Houston to overtime in 6the opener hah.

Btw I refuse to defend Autry any longer because it’s not acceptable seeing the team quit today.

But also ChaptGPT can’t find a single occurrence of this across any D1 hoops school ever playing this level of competition in this short amount of time.

I’m done with excuses for this program but damn facts are facts.

They look amazing. That said they only beat Wake by one in OT and Wake has been very mediocre to start the season so who knows.

Nice. Thanks for doing that research. I remembered that we beat UConn and Texas A&M in the Bahamas in 2015 and they were ranked. But I think they both fell off a bit that season and those wins weren’t quite as shiny in March. And, yeah, I was also thinking about the 1995 tourney when we played Arizona and UMass, but we were actually a top 20 team too. Was that Maui? Or the Great Alaska Shootout?
 
I had a lot of takes this afternoon. This program is very frustrating. I hope we’re back to being relevant again soon.

We're all frustrated, but maybe a little over the top to call Donnie that when all he's done wrong is have injuries?
