Is a 5-1 start too crazy to expect next year?

since we now have more than one cadence i bet we go undefeated- lester is a friggin genius

We dominated Maryland in 2013 on the road and we were confident we would beat in 2014 what happened?

In that 70-10 collective score includes 3 DEF TDs, 1 Safety. I am sorry I want us to be good but I have no confidence we have more than 1 sure win on our schedule URI. I feel strongly we should beat Wake and CMU, but I don't consider them locks.

So take out the defensive scores (since they apparently don't count) and the collective scores are still a dominant 47-10.

To me starting out 3-0 is nothing more than running in place. It's 3 teams we beat last year (politely swapping FCS), and two of them flip from road to home. If we're moving forward then we need to win at least 3 ACC games this year. And that's not asking much at all.

Just wait, if we lose one of the first three we're going to hear how "this schedule is UNREASONABLE!!!"

seriously, i mean this is just ridiculous. putting 2 teams who the Orange absolutely destroyed last year on their home fields...in the Dome in weeks 2 & 3 when you just KNOW they will be all hot & heavy and really gunning for revenge is an absolute travesty.

right after the d1aa tuneup too??

especially when you consider we are putting in a new offense.

this just will NOT go according to plan...

Sarcasm aside about the first three games, which we have NO excuse to lose any of them, scheduling LSU when you are a team desperate to get to six wins is still damn stupid. If you think anyone outside of here gives a rats arse if we schedule tough then you are wrong. All anyone cares about are wins and losses. We have no excuse for anything less than a 4-1 start and anyone who rationalizes that is nuts. At the same time Gross is still a moron for scheduling LSU.

Maybe so, but that is a great away game fan experience, even I am going to try to go to that game.

Totally get that, you are right. But a bowl game is even better :) even in a mostly empty stadium :0

No offense, but I couldn't possibly disagree more with this post. If you don't want the opportunity to play a program like LSU on your home field in front of what should be a raucous Dome crowd (and a very fun tailgating experience rubbing shoulders with our Cajun friends) then what's the point of even liking college football?

Nobody remembers going to crappy bowl games when we're 6-6, but historic regular season wins are remembered forever.

Yep - make your schedule mostly soft to ensure bowl games and momentum - but make your big P5 game vs a big name. Best of both worlds.

Agree. I feel a lot worse about losing to Minnesota (2X), Northwestern (2X), Maryland last year, and any other mid level P5s that beat us than I will about losing to LSU.

And at the end of the day, each only counts as 1 L on the books.

Schedule for no worse than 3-1 OOC, with the 1 being an epic win if you pull it out, and no big deal if you don't.

Go 4-4 in the ACC, and you have a 7 win regular season. Some years, you get the epic win, and maybe win 5 ACC, then looky here.

ill assume you dont consider the Pinstripe a crappy bowl game then, because those are both quite memorable.

Not as memorable as beating Nebraska in the Dome in 1984 or Florida in 1991 or Auburn in 2001 etc, or almost beating Tennessee and Michigan.

Dude you are going to need to stay away from the keyboard for a while...I am expecting a 6-0 start or a 6-1 start.

LSU does not scare this team or staff. They were 8-5 last year and lost a lot to the draft and off season. We are at home and we have historically played well against SEC teams here.
LSU may not scare them, but they have arguably the top RB in the country and a solid QB returning. Never back down, but it would be a major upset if SU were to win.

Don't get me wrong, I love everyone's passion and I love those memories but we are 2-10 against P5 teams OOC regular season since Marrone took over. I just think it's more important to first get more wins, more bowls, better recruits as a result. Once we get to the point of 8 and 9 wins and good bowls being commonplace , then give me freakin' LSU no problem!

with all due respect, those are selfish answers...and i went to 4 of the games you mentioned (and 2 are losses, so come on)

but the national reality is beating somebody in the regular season is just that, beating them in the regular season.

beating somebody in a bowl game, carries much more cache.

id rather go on a run where we:

tied: Auburn
beat: LSU
beat: Georgia
beat: Arizona
beat: Ohio State
beat: Colorado (2 years after they won the NC too)

and if the dontwearOrange were to replace LSU with another cupcake, the title of this thread would be "is a 6-0 start to crazy to expect (this) year?"

I'm not sure what you mean when you say they're "selfish answers." Please explain.

regular season wins dont mean shlit.

thats what i mean.

good for you, and whoever got to witness them, but the rest of the county doesnt give a flyin , or even remember or basically have any reason to find out what Syracuse considers a big win.

all they will do is google "Syracuse Bowl Wins" and will come to the 'right' conclusion.

in other words, what people in bars say are great wins, are just that...what people in bars say.

Using "bowl wins" as a barometer of success is pointless. A team that loses the Rose Bowl had a much better season than a team that won the Belk Bowl.

So you're telling me that if you were talking football with a fan of another school at a bar, that SU's Aloha Bowl victory against Arizona would come up in conversation before say, our 1998 win at Michigan? The regular season in college football is everything. That's why CFB is such a great sport - the regular season isn't an exhausting means to an end like so many other sports.

neither would.

but 5 years after that season, people would google up Syracuse football, see they won a bowl game and check who it was...before bothering with the regular season.

Just to confirm, are you for or against playing LSU in the Dome this year?

We killed Michigan i was at the game at the time it was the largest crowd to ever see a college football game unreal we simply destroyed them.

Sorry bro, but you're putting me to sleep with this regular season game talk. I'm more interested in discussing our 1979 victory over McNesse State in the Independence Bowl.
