Like every American, he is innocent until proven guilty and deserves a fair trial. But if everything he's accused of is true, is there a worse person in American sports history than him? There has to be someone I'm missing, but I can't think of anyone. I feel like his crimes (if he's convicted) are worse than OJ Simpson's.

I think so. He is evil in every sense of the word. He should be executed and not allowed to use up taxpayers' dollars eating up 50-60 years in prison.

On average, it's cheaper to keep someone on a life sentence than to execute.

OJ?

Or are we counting the number of murders to determine 'worst'?

Is that depending on state?
It's been studied by state with the same results everywhere.

yes, but only because the ridiculous number of appeals available.
You mean a legal system that is willing to double, triple, and quadruple check they have the right person before they pull the metaphorical switch?

Yes, it's absurd. Appeals are only done for procedural issues, not the verdict. It's a game to find any loophole or technicality that will void the verdict, regardless if that would have changed the verdict.

exactly. No one wants an innocent person executed. But there are cases where there is no doubt, reasonable or unreasonable. The two cheschire killers that tried to kill policeman after they raped and murdered two young girls and their mother. Jack ruby. Anyone alive saw him kill Oswald. The number of killers just like this. We don't need appeals that last 12 or 13 year for cases as obvious as these.

I know murder is worse than rape, but part of me feels like Sandusky is the worst.
Is murder worse than rape? Hopefully we won't have a chance to find out.

Anywho, how about Don King with two homicide convictions:

"The first homicide, King shot a man in the back as he was robbing one of Kings’ gambling houses. That was ruled justifiable homicide. But then, 13 years later, he was found guilty of beating an employee to death over $600. King was convicted of non-negligent manslaughter and served four years."

I doubt any attorney wants to set a legal prescedent for a quickie execution. The margin of error is just too high.

yeah, there was great doubt about Ruby's guilt.

Appeals are not only done for procedural issues. And how many people, including convicted murderers, has the Innocence Project and its cousins freed?

last thing the guy said, I'll get you the money Don.

Yet he was convicted of murder, then granted a new trial, and died of complications from lung cancer before the proceedings began. And in that case, it was arguments over the right to a fair trial and trying to reexamine the severity of the crime in order to lessen the charges.

Also in Ruby's case there may have been bigger fish to fry and he may have been helpful in discovering them by keeping him around.
