I know you've beat this drum for awhile now - so for the record - the kid put the picture of himself up on twitter and a woman posted the picture on the syracusefan recruiting board.
that said, it's amusing that you, milly and chip always comment on these photos. hmmm.
Are those schools also increasing their freshman readiness year over year? I see reason for optimism because we are probably catching up to what other schools have been doing for a while. That translates as a relative advantage for us. At worst, we're not starting in a hole relative to peer.
Yep. I see this as good news in the same vein as the ACC membership and increased revenue stream. Others are still getting more but at least we aren't so far behind.Ideally we're recruiting bigger, stronger and/or faster players. I don't know if it's true outside a few exceptions, but I'd hope that's true. So hopefully it is, and it's a reason to be optimistic.
I know the offseason workout articles are something positive during the down time, it just doesn't do anything for me personally. Read too many of them and then realized it's happening everywhere else too. There are obvious freak exceptions to that, like Shamarko, but in general, every D1 football player takes it pretty seriously and works out like crazy with tons of specialized trainers.
I know for sure that I'll be ignoring any future articles about middle linebackers needing to put on weight and bulking up by eating more cupcakes. That article was a low point in the program's storied S&C history.
I both understand and appreciate your tempered expectations.
But having followed "this" board for ten years now, summer optimism > summer pessimism.
If there are reasons to think positive, no matter how seemingly trivial, I can appreciate that as an Orange fan.
That's cold, but she would have knocked out the FSU Q.B with a left jab then nailed your A$$ with a right upper cut for laughsHe is pretty ripped! We should recruit the guy in the right too!
Fixed. And I completely agree with this. Like!It doesnt matter what other schools are doing as much as it matters if we are doing it more/better than before. If schools were getting the 5 star before and still are, the room for improvement is far less than ours. Close the gap and compete..
Weight room tough guys won't win football games. Can these kids play the game? Are they mentally tough? Are they football players? This stuff is great for show but won't win games and it's no different than any other program in the country. I can go find 7-8 freshman who are going to Wake Forest doing the same

Can't let good news just walk by ... gotta stick a leg out.
Here's the issue. What if we didn't have this kind of news? What if it was "most guys came in fat and overweight and will require a redshirt year just to make weight"? And what of the news that this staff is doing a better job of communicating with incoming freshmen about goals and that the accountability is working?
I get that one of the board memes is "offseason s/c reports are nothing to get amped about" - but c'mon. There is new info in there if you care to look.

I see that wake doesn't like to hire woman:noidea:You want to know what will really help SU. Take a look at Wake's staff in Sports Medicine and Sports Performance and compare to what SU has in those two areas: http://www.wakeforestsports.com/school-bio/wake-staff-directory.html
I used Wake because I think most would assume they would have a similar Athletics budget to SU, but feel free to tell me if I'm wrong with that assumption.
Instead of spending six figures on Sr. Exec Communication Guys who don't seem to do anything, let's hope Coyle takes that $ and gets more FT trainer and S&C staff. Can't forget to have staff to help train (and heal) the athletes once they arrive.
You're joking, right? This kid may need to take it easy with the bulking up. Looks like an injury waiting to happen. And I'm not just referring to Chip's reaction to this pic.
This really doesn't tell me anything other than Wake has more people on their staff in these respective areas and gets more or less (I'm leaning toward less) the same results on the athletic fields. You want to know what will really help SU. That's a question Chip would have to answer. You're joking, right?
So more trainers and strength coaches is a bad thing? I posted to show that SU needs to upgrade in support areas now that facilities have been addressed. Not all injuries are due to bad luck or flukes.
Proper nutrition, training, and treatment of minor issues can help keep more athletes active.
I see what you did there. That's a question Chip would have to answer.
