...upsets in NCAA history?

Arguably, I think you could certainly make that case.

I am practically vibrating right now I'm so excited!

Let's go Orange!!!

Well, until Kansas loses tonight and becomes the first 1 seed to lose to a 16...

Arizona might be a contender. Lost in the first round of 1992 to a 14 seed. Then followed it up by being the second #2 to lose in the first round by losing to Steve Nash's Santa Clara in 1993.

not sure why people are calling this game such an upset.

its pretty clear that fgcu is more than likely the best 15 seed of all time. They were the better team tonight with better athletes.

similar to vermont-cuse. vermont was no 13 seed that year. fgcu was no 15 seed.

You're right.
None of the basketball geniuses...all of us included...knew anything about FG-townCU.
This is a GOOD, well-coached team.
Let's hope we get to meet them in the Final 4 and slow them down a little.
In the meantime...thank you... and Go Eagles.

Regardless of how good FGCU may be and whether they may have been incorrectly seeded, it was a huge upset because noone saw it coming because of their seed and relative anonymity. That by definition makes it a huge upset I would say. Not sure its top two as the #2 upset is really big, but not nearly as big as it was when we became the first victim or Arizona became the second.

But I have to admit, that is one distinction that I am more than happy to have Georgetown now sharing with us! Let's all welcome the stinking Hoyas to the club!!

I'm struggling to figure out what the other biggest upset was...mainly because Gtown gets upset so much in the NCAA tourney. Too many choices.

Villanova '85.

Should have lost to Princeton in that 1-16 game back in the day. Then they'd have clinched the division on this stat.

For good measure, let's also add the 1982 NCAA title game when Georgetown's Fred Brown, in the final seconds, thinking James Worthy was a teammate, passed the ball to Worthy to seal a 63-62 Tarheel victory. Besides Warrick's block against Kansas, perhaps the sweetest moment in NCAA history for SU fans. BWAHAHAHAHAHA!

It was a huge upset. Maybe FGCU was better than a 15, but a couple seed spots still says a 2 seed who was in the 1 seed discussion should easily beat them.

The most important takeaway here for the SU program, and for JB in particular, is that FGCU played this game, from start to finish, with confidence, aggression, and swagger. This was no upset. FGCU played like they knew they were going to win this game - every possession, every shot, every rebound, every defensive matchup. This is how the game is won. SU too often retreats into a fearful shell where they are hesitant, relenting, overthinking, passive, risk-averse. You have to play the game to WIN with aggression, confidence, and swagger, which is entirely different than playing not to lose. JB, please take note.

Hugely disagree if you watched the game at all. True, I knew very little about FGCU before the game, but after a few minutes it was pretty clear who was going to win. FGCU took it to them from start to finish, and it was a masterful thing of beauty to watch, and not just because it was against Georgetown. Give me a good team playing with aggression, confidence, and swagger against a supposedly great team playing back on their heels anytime, anywhere.

It was an enormous upset, no matter how you rationalize it.

Watched every enjoyable second. And it was a huge upset. Sure, they played with swagger and confidence last night. Doesn't mean they are better. Better last night yes. But GTown beats them 9 out of 10 times and FCGU wouldn't finish 2nd in the BE. Upsets happen. If they didn't, how did FGCU twice lose to Lipscomb? Does that mean Lipscomb is better than GTown and a top 10 team this year?
