first I've heard of this:

http://www.vuhoops.com/2014/12/27/7...n-for-the-new-wawa-arena-at-villanova-and-the

Represents more of the changing paradigm of college football adding another competitor and challenge to us up here. Doesn't get any easier, if/when this program rebounds it would be a bigger accomplishment then coming back from the dead in the 80's from the problems of the 70's. Also doesn't help with the new fla. schools FIU, UCF, USF, not to mention UConn, RU non factors back then and the La. schools, too. When thinking about football I always feel like doing this :bang:

It's a fan fantasy...

This is the letter I wish Nova would send out...

by NovaDave on Dec 27, 2014 | 2:10 AM

Nova is announcing renovations to the Pavilion. This poster is dreaming on what he'd like Nova to announce ... a new 15,000 seat on-campus arena and an upgraded football program.

Nothing to see here.

Agree - fan fantasy but if the Big East had stayed together weren't they supposed to upgrade to D1 like UConn did?

In exchange for voting Rutgers and WV into the conference back in 1994, UConn and Nova were told that if they ever upgraded their football to FBS level, they would automatically be granted BE membership.

UConn made the jump years ago with the help of $50+ million from the State of CT.

Nova, being a private school, doesn't have that kind of money. They've never really considered it.

They averaged 5,300 fans a game this season.

The now ex-girlfriend is one of the bigger Nova fans you'll meet- no way she'd support a move to 1A. The problem with Nova is where it sits- Mainline, old money Philly suburbs. There's no real organic fan base around there. Alums don't come back in droves for football and the local fans are distracted by lots of other pro and college sports in town. Plus, Nova would be one of the smallest school in FBS. It just wouldn't make sense.

After the author learns how to spell check and proofread ("posible", "spilt", etc.) as well as learns the difference between "fewer" and "less", I'd like to see PSU's reaction to the proposal that PSU play at the Linc for 5 straight years.

Villanova was already afforded an opportunity to move into FBS and decided against it. I doubt in today's landscape they would change their mind. :noidea:

It's smart of schools like Nova and Fordham to stay at the FCS level instead of spending millions to finish last in a non P5 conference. It will be interesting to see if other schools make the move down as the gap continues to widen at the FBS level.

Alabama must be breathing a sigh of relief that the Villanova juggernaut is staying FCS and won't be threatening their supremacy.
They looked like Bama a certain Friday about 4 months ago...

Nova actually has found their niche...they can succeed and do well at the 1AA level by picking up B1G/ACC/AAC B level recruits and the occasional 5th yr senior.

My employer would take a very, very dim view of my injesting whatever "pharmaceuticals" he injested. My understanding is that the town wouldn't allow the school to build that fictional arena off the campus and it has a much smaller footprint than the minimum 30K-seat stadium required for FBS membership. Miami and Pitt faces similar situation with the town of Coral Gables and the Oakland neighborhood in trying to build an on-campus stadiums. IIRC JoePa was trying to make you folks, BC, Pitt, et al. give him 2 for 1, so PSU is going to give Nova 5 games in the Linc? Puh-lease.

Pieces like that make me very angry. Instead of wasting everyone's time in describing utopia, why don't writers/bloggers come up with practical suggestions that can be used to foster discussion instead of proposing things so outlandish that any remote chance of a dialogue is shut off before it even begins?

I am almost certain they hired the same consulting firm and stadium design team that Tristan told me NYU used for their run to Division One.

A fatal (I think) flaw in the author's post is that he wants Nova to remain in the new Big East for all sports except football and apply to a FBS conference for football.

When all of the realignments were going on, I read that every football conference requires a member to play all of their sports in that conference if it is offered. I know that was written into the old (with football schools) Big East constitution and bylaws. This would be okay with the NBE since they don't offer football but the gaining football conference would want all of Nova's sports.
