South Carolina St may be an awful team, I'm not sure but lighting it up to 73 points is a little much. I hope it's Clemson's biggest win this year.

Depends on how it was done. If the second half was primarily 2nd and third stringers running the ball then it is what it is. I didn't watch so not sure what Dabo's approach was.

Coming off a thumping, that's what schools like that do.

Punks.

Was South Carolina St forced to play the game by the Governor?

They get their payday.

Yes SC and Clemson are mandated to have to play in state 1AA rivals

Then the state should step in and stop the fight.

Running up the score is by far my least favorite topic. It's still football no matter how much they try to soften it.

meh, all fair points and I do agree that not everyone should get a trophy. Rather I was trying to leave the topic open for discussion from all angles. Here's to hoping we beat the piss out of Clemson this year

You can't tell the 2nd and 3rd string not to try out there, they deserve a chance to get in on the action.

Meh, there have been worse drubbings...like when USC put 70 on an SEC team, Arkansas in 05.

So glad I didn't grow up in the everyone gets a trophy era.
I get your point -- but I aspire to the day we all get "nuance."

What the kind of thread is this? Do we need a score cap on college football OP? Jeebus I hate these kinds of threads.

FWIW, we emptied the bench. 4th string QB even played. And guys I've never heard of. Score was so lopsided bc the defense held them to 44 total yards.

And to the poster who said we and SC are mandated to play FCS teams, that's not the case, but it's kind of an expected thing to keep some $$ in state.

I hate FCS games, but everybody has a few so...

thanks for the reply, I didn't see the game and only read a recap on ESPN but they didn't go into any analysis. I figured that the 3rd and 4th string players had to get in on the action so putting up 73 points is impressive

relax fella, I wasn't calling for the end of the world or to initiate a cap on scoring but rather tossing a question out there on a rather slow night in the forum. Holy cow people get upset over the dumbest things.

These cannon fodder teams always cash the checks. I have always liked this exchange between Lou Holtz and Bobby Bowden:

Holtz immediately recounted the 1970 meeting between his first-year William & Mary team and Bowden's West Virginia squad.

"Unfortunately, we had more Marys than Williams," cracked Holtz, whose squad absorbed a 43-7 loss. "When we met at midfield, I said, 'You're my friend, how could you run the score up?' Bobby looked at me and said, 'If you want to hold the score down, that's your obligation. If you want to make it a competitive game, coach harder, recruit better, but don't count on me.' ...

You got that right :D

No such thing as over the top. Score all the points you can.

They weren't the only team to do it yesterday either.
