and not the bubble screens. The old fashioned and slip screens have been awful the last few weeks.. we ran it better last year. There have been several with no D in sight if the blocks were made, but its hard to tell if the oline is not selling it or Dungey is not patient enough, or is it too obvious when we call it. just one more thing on the list of small mistakes

Was thinking the same thing. Think this is the most glaring example of having three OL starters out. Timing is just off.

We haven't run many conventional screens. The ones we have are being attempted with a young oline and rbs, thus the timing is probably slightly off.

Weve run a decent amount, considering its a screen play and it hasnt worked yet.

our Oline really struggles in space, very poor footwork, so many plays where we have oline out blocking and they dont even touch the player. some of that is also on the ball carrier to help set the block

I feel much better about the direction of the team than I did last season. I will not complain about anything execution wise this season.

one thing about the screen game is that Im not sure how much live practice they really do for it. the oline does drills and probably goes 1-1 with dline guys but as for blocking in space against DB and LBs im not sure they want to do that much of it since its a place for guys to get hurt. the better we get at it the better the offense will look. There have probably been at least 2 a game that were set up to be big plays if the first blocks were made, thats all you can ask for those calls is to have the D out of position.

Screen plays to Rbs require patience, and we haven't been able to figure it out yet.

It's honestly been atrocious.
It has been forced. In a few situations it has been blown up by the spy on ED other times they have stayed home and we forced.

i agree. i'm constantly reminding myself how terrible a conventional offense would be with this offensive line. the stuff they're running should work if we had average blocking and running backs (hopefully it's just youth and they'll all end up better than average)

i'm glad we're running a proven offense because i feel more comfortable knowing that it's execution and not bad design because we've seen it work so many times elsewhere. i think OCs try to hard to differentiate themselves hoping they hit the lottery with something different that happens to work - nothing we do is too weird, it's just dialed up to 11

Going to the 3rd tunnel screen last week after the first two were blown up was a bit much, but with ND dropping 8 into coverage it might have been a good idea to try it again. They just weren't well executed, too long to develop and then Dungey almost had to lob the ball over ND's massive tackles.

I watch a lot of college football and other teams seem to execute the 1 or 2 tunnel screens they run and they're good plays.
