Cordy said he had a Florida offer but every website just say interest with no offer yet. Either there is a miscommunication between him and UF or he just mispoke. Hope for his sake it was the latter

thats a concern.

Shamarko Thomas is 5'10 so I don't see it as too much of a concern. I'm all about mentality but measurables obviously don't hurt. I'd love to pick up the OT, he can definitely add more weight onto that 6'6 frame.

there's always an exception but we wont' win with a team full of landel bembo's and marcus claytons.

jeremi wilkes is going to kill us at safety this year.

Ya there are just so many 6 foot plus corners with sub 4.5s

That's why it's been great watching Keon Lyn progess. He had NFL athleticism and measureables from day 1 but it took him a bit to really put it together as a football player.

5-10 and 5-11 is fine as along as they're legit height and speed and go at least 190. Reddish/Morgan types. I'm just not real enamored with the steve renes and jeremi wilkes' of the world. Nothing against them personally they're just small. We'll see what Estime gives us - he's listed on the roster as a WR 5-9 185

By the way, did anyone notice Marquez Hodge our LB from Miami is only listed at 5-10 ?

Future Safety maybe.

Right on with that. Lyn has been been one of my favorite players to watch because of that progression. I am expecting a huge year where he makes himself a lot of money

Shamarko was only 5'10" as was Siriki playing MLB. Cam Lynch is only 5'11" BTW. I honestly don't think it makes a difference.

I never heard a commentator or an expert on the game ever say that a player was too short for their position, they do say that players lack "ideal size", whatever that means.

I have heard many experts and commentators say however that "speed kills" and "there is no substitute for speed" on the football field.

"He ain't changing light bulbs..." - Barry Switzer, coach of the Dallas Cowboys when questioned about Dexter Coakley's height at LB.

Really cause Diabate got manhandled in about half of our games last year.

Shamarko - the kid was probably over 215 pounds and one of the strongest if not strongest inch for inch players on the entire team. He's the exception.

Cam Lynch is a fine player but I'll take DyShawn Davis and Marquis Spruills over him.

We're not talking linebackers anyways. Different animal.

Smurf defensive backs, and I dont care how fast they are, are not ideal for winning football games. They have trouble covering big tall WR's and their usual light weight bodies can't support the run.

If we take one or two fine but I would not be littering the roster with a bunch smurfs either on defense or offense.

tend to agree with you Phatty - but I'm going to trust Coach Shafer on this one.

I think Lynch ends up being a bit of a tweener -- good football player, decent size and speed but not great speed. Bummer. But I also will point out that commentators say things that are easy to say and don't really get into the weeds with regard to actually breaking down what makes players/teams successful.

I'm personally OK with smallish guys who are legitimately fast -- abrams and gadsden (sp?) were small but outstanding, nate hemsley was small but dynamic, tayvon austin-type guys can be really tough to defend at WR, but they need to be elite speed guys. Will be interesting to see how it plays out.

Lynch is over 230 pounds at 5'11" and has very good speed. Enough speed to play in passing situations as a true freshman and last year.

Similar size as Zach Thomas and a bunch of other very successful NFL LB's. I was hoping they'd move him inside but it appears that Spruill and Luke have MLB well-manned.

Manhandled in half our games, really? I must have been watching different games than you. I saw a kid making plays who had below average height but a lot of speed. How many plays of the 500+ that we defended against did he get manhandled?

Please post some of those plays as I would like to see what I missed after watching all the home games from the stands and watching each of the 13 games on DVR 2-4 times each.

Hodge is already bigger than Diabate, but I understand your point.
