It was a Quad 3

What does this mean?

I like Red. I really want him to have success here.

But he was hired to be an assistant, paid for that for years, and was named HC when his resume didn’t warrant that at all.
He chose to play at Syracuse when he could have played at other places. He chose to coach at Syracuse when he could have coached at other places. When you’ve spent more than half your life at one place, you’ve given to that place more than most.

Yes, he got paid.

Yes, he may not be the person for this job. I acknowledge that.

What my post meant is that I’m not going to call Adrian Autry, a former All-American who loves Syracuse with everything he’s got, a joke. That is what I was responding to.

i agree.

its just such a weird limbo to be in as fans in this situation...theres so much thats right about whats going on with the team...but so many essential aspects that are missing

i dont think any SU fan has ill will against autry on a personal level...all the criticism he gets is only in terms of his coaching (as least i think so)

nowadays its so easy to be extreme and unfiltered online...no one hold their tongue anymore - which has plusses and negatives...

the truth is theres jsut something missing from the way this team is managed...imho

Agree 100%. I’m just above name-calling. Others here are not.

It was still a bad loss. And a loss that was inexcusable. Doesn’t end the season though.

I agree that the rhetoric here can be unhinged. People say stupid things.

To be fair, SU has also given a lot to Red.

JB chose to hire him when he could have hired many, many other candidates. The university handed him the head coaching reigns when his resume didn’t warrant that position at all.

He seems to be a very good guy who’s also a poor coach.

I agree. He’s been given a lot, too. This might not be the right job for him. I’m just not going to call people names.

Appreciate the dialogue here. It's a much more calm and collected commentary than other places.

It's Groundhog Day really. The last 3-4 years of the old man and now Year 3 of Autry. What's the problem?

Shooting, Defense, Free Throws, 3 Pt shooting, Injuries, ISO, Offensive schemes, a million other things. None of it matters.

The coaches have not coached these players to step on the throats of lesser teams when they need to. There is no killer instinct when it matters. The staff is not confident, the players are not confident., hell the fans are not confident.

I gave Autry the benefit of the doubt but he's in win out mode now. It's no longer beat Clemson and the bottom of the ACC early on then see what happens. We're in finish top 4 of the ACCT and beat Duke at Cameron mode. With this much talent on the team sitting on Selection Sunday hoping to be the 68th team is just not good enough.

Appreciate you contributing to that dialogue. Agree with all you’ve said.

Border of being a Quad 2. Bad loss, but not a season ender by any means. Why was the crowd dead until the final minute???
No point in keeping track this team isn't getting in the tournament, and it's just as well. JB buried the program on his way out the door, the probation, and hanging around to coach his son's.

He can be one of our guys and not be the person for this job. Both can be true. Few people have given more to SU than Red.

I hear ya, and it's quite unfortunate. I don't have ill will for Red for reasons you mention, etc. If I place any ill will, I'll place it directly towards the individual responsible for placing him in this position. Any leader who's worth a darn, knows where one's "seat is on the bus." Red's seat, obviously, is not one of HC caliber, at least not at the P4 level.

In my opinion, it's Wildhack that perhaps should be fired...his words after hiring him: "Autry has been exposed to every aspect of the sport, and that uniquely prepares him for the job.' “Adrian earned this,” Wildhack said Friday. “Adrian’s not here because he’s an alum, because he played here, because he’s an associate coach here. He’s here because I believe he’s the best candidate to lead this program and sustain the success that coach Boeheim has established over 47 years.”

It's quite apparent, again, IMO, that Wildhack lacks the hiring prowess of an AD at this level. His first hire (revenue sports as a greenhorn AD) has been quite unsuccessful (as many here at the time opined would likely be the case with Red) and his other revenue sports hire...well, let's just say, remains to be seen.

I'm hoping this was a wakeup call that the team can't mail it in, has to focus on free throws because they clearly matter, needs to take rebounding serious, and maybe just maybe have an offensive set.
