Any ranked statistic that doesn't attempt to adjust for schedule strength is a relatively flawed measure especially considering our SOS is in the Top 25 this season and likely includes 8 out 11 FBS bowl eligible teams on it (one of the highest # of bowl eligible teams in the FBS).
There are offensive and defensive efficiency measurements out there that I'm pretty sure the OP is aware of that are a better relative measure but don't provide the triple digit shock value (take into account adjusted SOS, pace of play, garbage time etc.). Said statistics are produced by paid statisticians. There isn't really a need to reinvent the wheel in advanced statistical analysis.
Bottom line is that our offensive efficiency is in or around the low 60's and our defensive efficiency is in or around the high 90's.
