It's really hit me today how irrelevant that Cuse is.

Normally this is a great weekend of college basketball. Diving into all the ACC games to see who has to win or lose to see how it affects Cuse's ranking for the ACC tournament. Watching all the top 25 teams and bubble teams to see who we are rooting for and against to see how it affects where Cuse slots into March Madness. Bracketology was always one of my favorite things to go through and favorite time of year in general. Reading all the great posts that JN and others would spend an inordinate amount time preparing and even color coding all the teams. Don't think that wasn't noticed.

Instead Cuse is playing at Wake Forest on the CW in a game that means nothing except that it brings us one day closer to a new coach. I'll still watch it and root hard for a bunch of guys who might not be wearing Orange next year. And really hope that next year that all the stars align and Cuse is playing meaningful games in March again.
I'm constantly shocked by these kinds of posts. This trajectory was obvious a decade ago.

At least we’re not Wake. Imagine watching their mess and knowing the same coach is coming back again to hope for the best.

At least we’re cleaning house even if it’s a messy process
Replacing Red with Hop wouldn’t exactly be cleaning house or something to compare favorably to Wake or others. We’ll be simply hoping for the best too.

NBA is better
If you overall like the product of an individual NBA game head-to-head compared to a college bball game that’s one thing. But one thing can’t be argued: the NBA regular session is 100% pointless. They play 82 games and only eliminate 33% of the teams for the playoffs.

Shorten the season, decrease the # of teams who make the playoffs, and get rid of tanking and the quality of the NBA product would increase significantly.

Why are you “shocked”? CliftonPark is just mourning what we’ve all lost. There’s nothing wrong with expressing sadness and frustration about the current state of the program.
The shocked part is for the people who are just now realizing how irrelevant the program has become. We're a decade into this trajectory, you have to be completely obtuse to be surprised now.

No, it was more of a time and place thing. It was the first Saturday that my calendar wasn't fully booked, so I could sit down and watch some games and I saw Seton Hall almost upset UConn and I saw Notre Dame beat NC State in overtime and during all the games all they are talking about is the conference tournament seedings and talking about bracketology.

Yes, our season once again was over before it almost started when Cuse almost took down Houston in regulation and failed. Except for the Tennessee game, arguably the SMU game, our guys have been out played and unable to finish 40 minute games against better teams.

And now people are talking about Hop coming back as the next head coach. If we can see how obviously bad that would be, why doesn't everyone. Egos and money are never a good combination.

Hit me realizing what I was paying for TV sports that I don't watch anymore-
Cut it off last wk -$1,300+ annual savings going internet-only.
Easily made the decision even as March Madness approaches -unimaginable a while back.
It's not just SU's travails -disillusioned by the whole NIL thing, and direction of pro sports.

Well, in their defense, a new Chancellor, a new Athletic Director and a new Head Coach is infinitely more important than a game with two teams participating that will get steamrolled in the ACC tournament.
Maybe, most importantly AD. Might have the most risk.

At least we'll make the ACCT, I think. If it matters.

It's possible to (a) have been aware of the long slide of this program from when that started, and (b) to have random moments along the way when it hits unexpectedly hard. That describes me.

A month ago I flipped on UConn-St. John's. The atmosphere at MSG was absolutely electric. It really struck me in that moment how long it had been since any SU regular season game felt that way.

Needless to say, it shouldn't be hitting anyone for the first time this season. But I totally understand having a moment where the noise quiets and one really feels it.

Think my interest started heading downward when JB would play Girard over Kadary. Would complain with AlSacs that JB had lost his mind and we were in trouble. Would then get scolded by the JB knows all folks who thought a coach in his 70s would be able to right the ship even though 0 coaches at that age had ever did anything but start to ruin their legacies. Thank god for the Sabres as I don't think I've watched a single college bball game in the last 2 months or so.

I too miss being relevant in March, wondering where we would end up in the bracket rather than wondering if we would even make the tournament (although there's not much wonder left this year).
I also miss not having any real rivalries anymore - I miss the battles with Georgetown, St Johns, UConn, Villanova, etc. We just don't seem to have that in the ACC. Initially, it seemed that we might have a nice rivalry with Duke and UNC, but that went by the wayside with the demise of the program at SU. I'm still a fan and will always bleed orange, but at this time, it's hard to get very excited about the hoops season. Hopefully they can bring someone in to turn around the program and make us at least somewhat relevant again.

It's been repeatedly hitting me over the head each Selection Sunday.

I miss when the board used to get angry about Lunardi calling us the perennial bubble team.

I bet even Lunardi misses it a little.

You must not enjoy guys making baskets then. You should have watched the Celtics last night. 67% from the floor. Effective field goal percentage over 80. They had thirty (30) assists before the end of the 3rd quarter. It was amazing to see actual team ball.
And shoot 90 threes a game. It can be difficult to watch.

NBA talent is undeniable. I mean they are pros. The offensive ability is absolutely ridiculous. This coming from a basketball player and someone that loves the game.

But it’s also a star driven league, and the league has a big, real problem with stars missing games and tanking. And far too many blowouts across an game 82 game regular season.

Playoffs are a different intensity (usually). Wake me up in May when games mean something. I’ll tune in for series between OKC, DEN, SA, HOU and DET, NYK, CLE, BOS.

Celts shot a mere 50 last night, making 40% of those. Fun to watch them dismantle the Bucks without their 2 biggest stars.

I live in a market of three power conference schools with some of the most melodramatic fanbases imaginable, so there's never a dull moment.

As far as the NBA goes, I've been following more over the last few years than I can remember since my mid-90's childhood. The tops of both conferences are loaded and the SAS-OKC rivalry (which is really Wemby vs. Chet/SGA, but whatever) is can't-miss. And the diversification of media partners has been a big win for fans. ESPN's studio shows were an embarrassment, while Amazon and NBC have been a breath of fresh air in that department.
