for almost 50 years. Since JB has been coaching we've nearly always looked like crap in the "pre-season" except when playing up to the competition. I can't get excited one way or another at this point in the season. It is what it is. I'll start worrying (or getting excited) once 2014 rolls around.

I agree they always , always play up or down to the level of competition. Just last year our offensive looked pitiful early on as well.

This why I dread playing mid majors in the NCAAT. The zone allows them to hold the ball for 30 seconds on all their possessions and then allows them to play at their speed and comfort level. Jimmy will not press and our athleticism advantage is totally negated. But we made a few plays late tonight and pulled it out.

Correct. I've been watching them for only 30 years and I wholeheartedly agree.

How about instead of freaking out that they almost lost (didn't by the way - they won), we take a step back and say 'hey, exciting tense game when our boys were not at their best, took a good team's best shot and still won by 6'?

Cause that works for me. Those 20 pt. blowouts get boring. This one was fun til the very end.

GREAT POST!

I've been watching 40 years and my feelings are in between the 40 and the 30 year poster - I am somewhat concerned.

Its not the zone that allows them to hold it for 30 seconds its the defenders. When we had guys like dion and mcw up top we tried to take the ball and make them drive more sort of like a press. we don't faceguard ever with it like st francis did very well today to rattle us. But, we do put the pressure on and rattle them some with a good defender up top.

Gbinije is more in the Rautins, triche mold as our longest best guard defender he will sit back more and extend, hes 6'7 but he wont try to take the ball.

The zone isn't going to leave a player open to force or rush a shot like m2m will at times.

Tonight won't be the last time we see late game offense / defense switching with G and Cooney.

I was more concerned about the offense tonite.
The guards we've had these last few years have spoiled us, especially the creators & break-u-down guards like Dion, MCW, Scoop, & Jonny.
Ennis is ...steady- reminds me a little of Triche in that regard. But he hasn't shown that blow-by first step the other guys were known for. Tonite we witnessed what happens when CJ is off and/or is getting shut down. We need "creators" on offense- the defense will come, IMO.

I'd rather play g and Cooney up top if you do offense/defense. Cooney is a way better defender than Ennis.
