Jackson Meeks: Waived by Lions

Hard to envision Meeks having a better preseason, for an UFA. Talk about making the most out of the opportunity.
He’s no Victor Cruz, but he’s having a great one!

And admins, take this stupid approval bullshit off.

I'm an Iggles' fan. I'm tellin' ya, Meeks would at least be their #5, and perhaps their #4, receiver if they picked him up. They lack depth there.

C'mon Howie, work your magic...

Jackson Meeks thru 8/17: Very, very good! He is the best or tied receiver in this preseason!

I wonder if that's a good thing. Was he playing? In the last preseason game they typically hold out the guys they don't have questions about.
I think they are hoping against hope that he doesn't get claimed before they can put him on the Practice Squad. Meaning, they saw no point in giving teams any more film on him. They drafted a WR who has done really well, Isaac TeSlaa, who looks like an immediate contributor.

So, I think Meeks will be a victim of the numbers game. But I also think the Lions really like him.

If the Lions were being aggressive they'd keep Meeks with the draft pick and move on from one of their other "proven" vets for draft capital and cap space

Kalif Raymond and Tim Patrick for example

I mean, that's possible. Jameson Williams, Amon-Ra St. Brown, and TeSlaa are clearly ahead of him. Come to think of it, Raymond and Patrick are older veterans, think they're both in their 30's.

There's still hope!

WIDE RECEIVERS (7): Amon-Ra St. Brown, Jameson Williams, Kalif Raymond, Tim Patrick, Isaac TeSlaa, Dominic Lovett, Jackson Meeks.

Meeks, undrafted out of Syracuse, has likely earned a spot in a talented room after a strong preseason in which he logged 171 receiving yards and two touchdowns over games against Atlanta and Miami. Rookies TeSlaa and Lovett were also productive and could contribute to the squad on special teams.

I don’t think Jackson Meeks showed enough to be in the Detroit Lions elite WR room! It would be so dumb of the Lions to keep him on the 53 man roster and should cut him immediately. I say this unbiasedly and not as a Packers fan that watched everyone not named Mathew Golden look like a clown show this preseason and am secretly hoping the Lions do something stupid so Green Bay can scoop him up.

While Meeks had a great pre-season, this doesn’t surprise me.

Lions only kept 5 WR on their 53 most of last season.

ARSB, Jameson Williams, Isaac TeSlaa, Tim Patrick, and Khalif Raymond were all locks.

They also used a 7th rounder on a return specialist in Dominic Lovett (who hasn’t been cut yet).

I’m not sure there was anything Meeks could do to make the 53, other than convince the Lions to keep six (or seven) WR on their active roster. He will be claimed by someone and added to their 53.

Meeks will be playing in NFL games this fall. My guess is for the Titans.
