January Enrollees

Marrone said he was very happy with the play of Smith & AAM this season. Have not heard a thing about Smith leaving the program.

A DE from JUCO was mentioned at one of the luncheons but no names or schools were mentioned due to NCAA regulations. Word at that time was only one JUCO player was coming but with the departure of Graham, Smith, and possibly Thomas my bet is that has changed.

Maybe you mean the other Thomas?

You had said Graham Smith and Thomas were possible departures so I was confused.

Its been a long day. Sorry I meant Graham, Thomas, & Thomas.
Ok cool I got a little scared. I really like Smith, think he has the least amount of question marks surrounding him among all the running backs.

I would love to get Bryan Johnson. Other hopes would be a speedy WR, Depth along the inside of both lines and maybe a safety with the possibility of Shamarko leaving. Really, we could use anyone in everything besides QB, TE and LB

There have been some great JUCOs picked out there in the last handful of years. Cam Newton, Bruce Irvin, JPP, Jon Jenkins, LaGarrette Blount, Daniel Thomas...those are all big names coming from the JUCO ranks. They're also the creme of the crop, and I wouldn't expect getting one at SU, but there are a ton of JUCO pros.

Tiller started made all BE, Hay started every game, Goggins started every game, Ball and Fisher were quality backups. Lou Alexander red-shirted and should provide depth next season. I would say that is pretty successful.
Add Diabate and Kose to that list - both were quality backups. Add the two Hofstra transfers, Cruz and Weaver. It may be Year 4, but this team could use help in every unit.

This year , we need guys who can get on two deep right away. Filling the 3 roster spots that just opened- JUCOs could be the best option at this point.

Admittedly, this is easier to say than to do. Marrone can't just go shopping at Nassau CC (or other CCs in the same league) and recruit kids with decent academics and talent to fit positions of need.
You wonder, though, whether he even considered -- looking forward to the 2011 season -- the obvious need for a LB with size to help while the undersized kids grow up, a running QB, a RB to back up Bailey/Gulley, or a WR. You can take your lumps with kids like Lynch and Davis; with Nassib taking all the snaps; without an extra playmaker -- or you can go JUCO.
Entering this year, some of the same needs are evident (plus a big hole at safety) -- you can make a move to win now or take your lumps while the frosh develop.

I really want to get to the point depth-wise and experience-wise that we only have to worry about going after a choice JUCO when we want one, and not having to rely on it. I want guys that spend four years developing here... But, that said, Marrone has done pretty good with the JUCOs, and I have to be honest, I do want guys like Johnson and Wayne Williams.

Wait, so we turned Neal, possibly Morgan, and others for ing JUCO's?

I'm tired of this .

great job overreacting to something we don't even know is true at this point. big suprise

We did not turn down Morgan...and Neal looks like everyone walked away from him (someone else posted on here that he may be heading to ECU)

Loving the love

Socko is here for you KC...:)

I don't think you're going to get a JUCO RB though...

Gulley
Smith
Ameen-Moore
McFarlane
And the scout writer is saying that even if Morris (GA kid signs), McFarlane is going to be a RB

Not good you have four Rb's Smith has had injuries, Moore is hurt, Gulley ok we know and McFarlane is a rookie who many teams wouldnt recruit as a rb not very comforting and Doug likes to run the ball

I left off Rene (RS Soph) and Tull (RS Soph) who will also be RB's and on the depth chart.

Smallwood is 50/50 (half the people on here say he's coming the other half say he's not)

And Morris if we sign him

So we could have between 6 and 8 on the roster come fall

Whether any of them can produce...we will see...

Rene and Tull would be third string on Buffalo. They are not Division 1 RB's Smallwood could help but he didnt play last year after getting injured or because of grade issues. Lets face it we are pretty thin in the RB department sure hope we sign Morris

Every school has turned down Neal.

This is the glass half empty look.

Glass half full- Smith looked like a beast in the Pitt game, and runs hard. Moore will have a year in S&C after he recovers from his surgery, which was probably the reason he wasn't that good this year. Gulley has shown a lot of availability when healthy. McFarlane showed up Boom Perkins at the Oregon camp.
