Jason King RE: Kentucky

again, i agree with this as far as overall resume and nerdy bracketolgists.

but are you comfortable playing kentucky or ohio state right now?

we can say yes or no and give any reason we want to - but the fact of the matter is we cant answer it definitively because we havent played a legitamite top 10 team yet.
Who is a legitimate top 10 team? Florida was top 10 when we beat them, Uconn and Louisville were top 10 when the schedule came out. kansas was supposed to be down.
The bottom line is college basketball is very unpredictable and the games we play will prepare us for the tournament. I don't think we will be any better or worse if we played North Carolina or Ohio St instead of Florida and Uconn.
We will either play well or not in March and a preseason game in the first week of December won't have an impact on that.

where did I say they were at large's?

I am talking about teams like Bucknell in that range that will make the tourney, and teams like ND/Pitt/stanford/NC st/illinois who could go on a run and improve as the year goes on, but a team 200 cannot do that

you have to be kidding me if you think that those teams make or break a schedule more than playing top 10 teams.

serious question... who do you think scheduled the more difficult OOC schedule? Cuse or kentucky?

more serious question... if we flip flopped schedules with Kentucky, whose schedule woud you be defending? Kentuckys?

make or break a schedule? what the are you talking about, I am talking about preparing you for postseason play, and yes playing more good teams prepares you better than playing 2 top 10 teams 3 months ago

Clearly this argument needs to be settled on a Monday night in April. Then, and only then, will we know who's schedule meant more.

that would neccesarily mean someone had a better schedule... but it would determine who won the natl championship...

and i dont think anyone would disagree that that is all thats important.

I'm not comparing the schedule, all I'm disputing is your claim that we won't be ready for the tournament b/c we didn't play a "legitimate" top 10 team in December.

the top 10 teams they played 2 months ago was during their ooc schedule. very few teams can fit ooc teams in their conf schedule. basically meaning all of their big ooc games have to be months away at this point.

its not kentuckys fault the sec is down, just like its not our fault the big east sucks.

you said you are comfortable playing anyone in the country because we play more quality opponents. im sorry, i flat out dont care about any single team in the rpi of 100+. i dont care if we are playing the 320th team or the 101st. its all a crap shoot at that point.

sure, you will find a 2 star mike williams every now and then, but give me the 5 star johnnie morant any day of the week and ill take my chances on him...

i hope you understand the point.

i never said we wouldnt be ready.

You are right. You used the word comfortable. So let me ask you this- would you really feel more comfortable going into the tournament if we played an OSU or North Carolina on November 30th? Do you really think that game would have a significant impact on the outcome of a game played in the 3rd week of March?

Do i think it would have an impact on the game? no
Would i feel more comfortable? yes
Would i feel more secure in our schedule? Y.E.S. 100x more.

i havent waivered from day 1 on my thoughts:
Syracuse, UNC, OSU, and Kentucky are the 4 best teams. When it all comes down to it at the end of the season, I truly believe the only teams to beat these teams will be the other teams listed.

What I like about not playing them is that they haven't seen our team and if they did in November it's possible they might make some adjustments that could make a difference if we play them in the tournament.

I think this schedule stuff is such bs. Duke got blasted by ohio state, does that mean they stink? Does it mean theyll be better prepared for the tournament? please. If we beat north carolina at the dome by 1 in novemeber like kentucky did at rupp, is that really gonna make a difference in march? How we play on the road in feb against lousiville and uconn is gonna tell me a helluva lot more about syracuse than how they played in november against anybody, home or away.

Id like them to play a top 5 team in nov/dec for selfish reasons, it adds more excitement to the non-conference schedule. But as far as it better preparing them for march, i think its complete bs. Conference games, especially on the road, in jan/feb is much more telling.

even when the big east is as bad as its ever been? the ooc scheduling is very important.

ville and uconn are bubble teams right now.

I think I pretty much agree with this.

first I am talking about top 100 teams

second you are crazy if you think teams 200+ are anywhere near as good as teams in 100-150 range, for one teams 100-150 have winning records, once you get over 250 we are talking about teams that struggle to win games in and out of conference

agree to disagree

I think the idea is that for an elite team, there isn't much difference between #100 and #150 or #200. And I think, as far as home games go, that is true.

there is no difference in the sense that you win both easily, but the difference is still 10-15 points in the final score

Playing teams full of future pros will always make anyone uncomfortable. But the question now is: who has the best overall resumé? And SU does at this point.

Theres not a team in the country that wants to see us with Fab.
We have 5 transition scorers in the halfcourt when Fab is around and are super athletic.
Two half game or not that second 20 with Fab in is a nightmare for opponents.

Im still laughing that some WVU fans on the 5 letter s board say they want us again. They have no idea what they are in for if Fab is around.
