I find this really interesting. Will a walk on find a school willing to offer a scholarship? Maybe that’s not what’s it’s about- they just want to play at a lesser D1,2,3 program so they can see the court. Either way, I find this an interesting fallout of the portal.

I believe that D-1 rostered players have to enter. My son's 1st year he was not on athletic scholarship, but was a recruited athlete and on the team. (Technically a walk on, but soccer has 9.9 scholarships for 23 players.) When he decided to transfer, he had to portal.
