JB Final Four Press Conference 3/31

The press wants and expects their pound of flesh. And JB will not give it to them

Not only that, he is openly making fun of them with the Pulitzer comment while he is not giving them their pound of flesh.

JB is untouchable at this point and he knows it. He's telling the press to go screw because he can. Him and SU will get lit up in the papers, but he doesn't care, and he shouldn't. He's got one job, and he's doing it pretty damn well.

You might be right on the first line, but I think the last one is actually the opposite of what he's doing.

We're pretty much out of the woods, it's a great time to be a Syracuse coach/fan/player, and SU and Boeheim have a real chance to get the vacated wins reinstated in the next couple years. The folks in SU's general counsel are sitting there saying 'Jim, out of everyone who touched this mess, you're the only one who hasn't been canned. You're lucky you're you. Just shut up and move on and you'll get the wins back.'

But he can't help himself.

But if you're not playing by the rules and your opponents are, then thats an unfair advantage. They are restricted by the rules whereas you are not.

Then we really suck at cheating since we self-reported. Not sure how many true criminals or "cheaters" do that.

The NCAA has 1000+ pages of rules and regulations. It's easy to run afoul of some. Regardless, I 100% agree with the SU position taken in its appeal. The NCAA didn't follow its own procedures and its findings are without merit, particularly with respect to Fab Melo. Fab was cleared to play through the SU judiciary process. The NCAA's rules state that it should respect a university's judiciary process. The NCAA, in finding violations against SU even after Fab was cleared internally, violated its own rules.

As an aside - the NCAA is a corrupt and morally bankrupt institution. It has no moral authority to sit in judgment of anyone.

Of the vacated games, how many where due to academics? Pot? Score board money? The last two don't support any advantage as far as basketball is concerned.

You all make good points and I'm not necessarily disagreeing with anybody. However the 'Everyone else does it' defense is pretty weak. That shouldn't matter. You break a rule and you get caught, well that's on you. Those that don't caught may be lucky but they're running that same risk.

The drug thing is weird I'll grant you that. The rule as I understand it was that the NCAA had no drug policy in place but if a school had its own drug policy in place then that policy must be followed. SU had one and didnt follow it. If they had a policy there should have been a mechanism in place to make certain it was being followed.

Regarding players getting paid - I disagree that it was not a violation. Did they get those jobs because they were athletes? If the answer is yes then its a violation. Thats pretty clear.

I think the penalties were pretty severe but I'm an alum and a fan so of course I think that. I don't deny that they did break rules though.

Its just funny that fans of other schools get so worked up over us, and it is going on at their school, and they don't care. You would think our players were shooting up on steroids, and pushing old ladies in front of moving cars.

i think there's a big difference between getting some help from a tutor and university wide FAKE classes/ high grades for athletes. BIG DIFFERENCE.

Frankly I am surprised he answered any questions about the sanctions. This week should be about the kids accomplishments.

Saying they didn't cheat is kind of silly. Kissels behavior was cheating...no way you can argue that and I bleed orange.

That was a great press conference.

Interesting the infractions committee member told him that they have a horrible model. JB probably wasn't supposed to let that out hehe.

I'm glad he touched on the "cheating" label. Difference between cheating and rules that are broken without the head coach's knowledge which don't have any effect on recruiting.

That was a pretty great answer, I thought he was going to bring it back and close it out a little better to drive the point home, but it was well stated.

Well some rules were broken - SU found them out and even fired one person for the violations. I'ld say we did all one could expect from a clean program. If those who say rules were broken so we are cheats, well when you jay walk or exceed the speed limit by even 1 MPH, then you are a criminal. How would you love to hear people call you a criminal because you jaywalked or went 1 MPH over the limit? If you don' see some kind of difference here, then your comprehension and logic are non-existent.
