JB/older coaches/covid

Wow. Can't believe that most of he posts are more concerned about the impact on recruiting. Others that "we can't live our life in a bubble". No concern for the coach? No concern for his family? The current players? It's not called "high risk category" for nothing! What people seem to fail to comprehend is you don't only put yourself at risk but your family, friends and co-workers.
like 1000x

I didnt intend for this to be a what's right or wrong for someone to do. Just thought it was interesting to think of with JB being considered more at risk and now the media bringing it up...didnt think it was the best publicity for us when it comes to immediate recruiting but i guess everything is up in the air. Let's see if we have a season first and then go from there.

There are a couple of other hall of fame coaches it has affect on, it's not like it would hurt us alone.

That's not what I intended for it to turn into. Of course I'm more concerned with the health and well being of JB. It was more about how it would impact our recruiting/program and even JB himself having to make a decision. Wasnt intended to be negative or about what the right choice or wrong choice is. That's up to JB and for everyone in the world to decide what's best for them. Sorry if it came across as not caring. It was more about how it could impact EVERYTHING and EVERYONE...including recruiting. Some of yall gotta chill. I want for JB to do what's best for JB and his family. Whatever that decision is I'm good with especially knowing hes a high risk person. Life is way more important then basketball. And I only brought it up because of it now being talked about in the national media. God forbid I bring it to a Syracuse forum to discuss it and then have it dissected as if I dont care for JBs life or any human life in general. It was more about how covid is impacting or could potentially impact our program and our coach as well as many others because of him being high risk. I guess I could of worded it differently from the start but i did ask if this would be used as a negative recruiting thing against us. I want JB to do whatever is best for him and his family when the time comes for him to make that decision. Not sure how you took me asking if this could effect our recruiting negatively as not having and regard for JB and his families wellbeing. Theres plenty of covid talk on other threads this was more specific about how it could impact our program/coach/recruiting/if he would coach if we have a season etc.

When college basketball returns, I would think (hope) it would be in a safe manner. Either we have the vaccine or social distancing guidelines are put in place, like no fans at games. If the coaches are only around each other and the players, and the rest of the time everyone is limiting contact outside that circle, they could make it work.

It isn't just the older coaches that have to be careful. I'm sure there are a lot of coaches out there with comorbidities that make it more dangerous for them, and, even thougn less frequent, some young healthy individuals are getting hit hard too.

Just delete this thread before it gets out of hand because that's where its heading. That was not my intentions of this post but its obviously going in that direction quickly.

If there is a reliable 15 min test, then continuous testing would work great in this type of scenario.

People do wonder out loud how K, Roy and JB's runs might end. Maybe this is it (I hope not).

We all have concern for our coach and players but there needs to be a point where we get back to normal.

Brian, there is a happy medium between getting back to normal tomorrow, and "never" getting back to normal. Maybe it's 3 more months, maybe it's 6 months, maybe it's another year. I don't know. This is our World War 2, we just have to be reasonable about it.

Brian is a Sith - he only deals in absolutes. ;)

To go back to the original question, I don't think it will be used against us in recruiting since we're hopefully only looking at next season. Should JB be allowed to coach? Sure, it's his and his family's decision to make if they are in fact playing games this season.

I will say my dad's about JB's age and is in pretty good health for his age, similar to JB. If he were in JB's shoes, I think I'd prefer he avoid the travelling and being in arenas that coaching involves and I know my mom would. (at least based on what we know now. That may change when the season gets closer.

When I first read the original article on insidetheloudhouse.com, my immediate reaction was can JB or any coach for that matter be a part time coach. Coaching practices but not games over an entire season. It's been done for a few games but not all. Even if the game coach is a longtime assistant who knows the hc's style, (ie GMac), is he allowed or can he avoid putting his own spin on his game coaching. Is the team better off in this case having an interm coach for the whole season? Then it was the consideration about does this lead to JB (and again any others like Coach K or Williams etc) to finally step away. If the coach becomes just a practice coach does he realize he can actually retire. In my mind I can see Julie with the backing of the kids, putting her foot down saying "no way, time to stop! ". Final point, I never ever considered the impact on recruiting. Now that I think about it the whole covid situation has had a impact due to shorter hs seasons, lack of camps, home and campus visits, and such. Even final hs grades! Really think that how social distancing effects the high risk category coaches 6 months from now is far down that list.

yeah maybe not the best analogy.

How come? The death total will be comparable, and WW2 was probably the last event in the US which literally touched the lives of all people and required a collective sacrifice.

(I'm not in any way suggesting that me teleworking is the same as soldiers during D-Day)

wonder what most older coaches stance will be on this when/if the season resumes. NCAA/NBA etc.

Thank you. I've been waiting for someone to finally say it.
All we have to do at that point is pretend that the 90,000 that have died and the people that will die going forward, didn't actually die.

Except a) it lasted 4years and b) almost every American accepted the "hardships" involved. No crying about the limitations imposed to help the ttoops.

CLEARLY, you have no clue as to what the WWII death count was.

you might want to sit the rest of this one out.

I mean, I have access to Google. It's 419,400 Americans who died.
good.

and if all you care about is AMERICAN deaths, then I applaud you.

for i figured you were counting all the covid deaths, but i agree...screw the rest of the world.

i will let Trump know he can count on your vote too.

i apologize, glad to have you aboard the Pro-America team.
