"Fab [Melo] lost 30 pounds. That's the big difference for him. Last year, his biggest problem was getting up and down the court. Once he got there, he could do some things. He just couldn't get there."

...this is a big deal...if his stamina and ability to move have been improved, his game should go to a new level...

By 'new level' you mean he plays more minutes and doesn't foul out, then I agree with you. His conditioning last year was poor and building confidence isn't always so easy for young players. Hope Fab figures it out and plays through mistakes and getting pulled from his minutes when he doesn't do what he is supposed to be doing.

Can't wait for the season to start!

G.O.

I believe his injury affected his conditioning and certainly his development. It's tough to get into tip-top shape with a bad wheel.

IMHO, he is going to be one of the most pleasant surprises on this team this year.

I hope so ... we are going to need a lot more from him this year ... certainly many more minutes and considerably more productivity. Last year he was lost ... this year I hope he is found.

Now that is a classic JB quote. Love it. Hilarious.

Sounds like Boeheim is trying to motivate him before the season. Saying he was overweight and couldn't get up and down the court is a shot at Fab. If I were Fab I would sure be pissed, and ready to prove myself.

saying fab was overweight and couldn't get up and down the court is a shot a fab ... if he hadn't been overweight and unable to get up and down the court. in this instance it's just a harsh truth.

I think the reaction to Fab's struggles went above and beyond last year. When you combine the fact he was not only raw, but a foreigner, extremely highly regarded coming in, and then hampered by conditioning and nagging injury, well, I think people just got themselves more and more worked up every game.

He had some good efforts last year. Both in regards to individual plays and various halves of games. I thought his movements during the MM were much more explosive. There will still be bonehead plays, and consistency will be a season-long struggle. But Fab will be the MVP of a handful of games, and seeing how much he dedicated himself and knowing his high ceiling, it would not shock me if he put together a together a Syracuse career in which he looks a lot like Seikaly's, but a year behind in his development.

Rick lost a significant amount of weight between his Junior and Senior season, and he went from good player to all league player.

I'm expecting to see a very nice change in Fab's play just based on the weight loss alone. This is exactly what all of us hoped would happen after last season, can't wait to see the effects on the floor.

I forget which article, but I remember reading a comment from him where he hints at letting the hype get to his head and how he thought it would be easier
