JB on With Dan Patrick at 11:25 Eastern.

Making the program his personal family outing for a season is what did it for me.

Buddy was a legitimate high D1 talent. Should he have played 35 minutes a game? Probably not, but he wasn’t some role player out of his league.

Jimmy shouldn’t have played nearly as much as he did. That’s true.

We all agree the recruiting wasn’t what it should have been.

My problem with JB is he says stuff that 100% isn't true and people who don't know any better believe him verbatim. It's very similar to our modern political environment.

Is this true, though? Fans are aware of his propensity to be hyperbolic.

His recent NIL comments would be an example. There’s absolute truth in our NIL lagging. Being bottom 3 in the ACC is where the hyperbole kicks in. It’s unlikely there’s anybody taking ‘bottom 3’ as gospel because Jim said it.

It isn’t close to bottom 3. We paid the wrong players in the backcourt. Period. There’s teams in the Big 12 that were ranked this year that had significantly less money than us.

It isn’t in the upper half (edit: Third. We were somewhere near the middle from what I’ve gathered) of the ACC either, though, based on the number quoted here and the numbers I’ve seen on national boards from other ACC fanbases.

And guess what? Even if it wasn’t the recruiting services had us with a top 20
class coming in and top 5 in the ACC. Everything else is an excuse to me! NONE of this was a problem last summer! Now it’s JB excuse season and he has had a lot of them the past decade.

I’m referring specifically to the accuracy of his comments that NIL isn’t where it needs to be. There were naturally multiple factors contributing to the poor performances on court. The ones JB called out were Autry’s coaching, the top 2 players, and NIL.

To the point about him saying untrue things that people take as truth, I think anybody would apply what their eyes saw to any comments he makes. People saw Autry’s coaching. People saw the performances of our players.

Btw, I took his bemoaning of our NIL as a coordinated effort to poke donors to give more. I think, “Hey, the donors did great and we didn’t deliver” would have been a disastrous comment.

Could be. I don’t know. He lost all benefit of doubt with me when we were playing Jimmy at center to end close games.

Is there another fan base in history that dumps on their HOF, Iconic, legendary coach the way this one does?
just askin.
The "fan base", writ large, adores JB.

A much smaller segment of the fan base remains agitated about the last 5-6 years of his tenure, when he largely quit recruiting and stopped being deeply engaged with practice.

There are almost no similarities of Boeheim's SU tenure at any other school. So the comparison you want to make is difficult.

Also, disagreeing with what JB is doing now doesn't mean that people hate JB.

I think most people recognize JB's massive contributions to what Syracuse basketball is.

No one thinks his name shouldn't be on the court or that he shouldn't be in the HoF. In fact, I'd wager most people think he should get his wins formally reinstated.

And he was at the helm for the 2003 title, which, if you are posting on a message board, probably means that is a very important thing in your life.

But you can complain now that he's doing grumpy old man stuff in front of a microphone.

Thank you. I have multiple pieces of signed Jim Boeheim memorabilia in my basement, but he has driven me absolutely insane for the past 5 years.

I love Jim Boeheim. I will always love Jim Boeheim. And I loved that he spoke his mind two days ago.

I also realized that while I loved his gaemday coaching this decade, I don't miss the daily doses of his bah-humbug'ness on postgame pressers, etc.

But long Boeheim. He's going to be him and it's great.

Yeah, I mean, I get it. He's been this way the whole way. Most of the time he's our crazy grandpa and it's fine. Sometimes he goes rogue during the family BBQ.

the HoF’er keeps us in the national spotlight. Unlike some of the posters here, many still see value in his insights.
His presence can bring value to Syracuse if he’s saying it’s a great opportunity and should be attractive to any coach out there that wants a grand stage at a high quality program that is one of the best programs in history.

But that’s not what he’s doing. He’s interjecting himself into the conversation and doing it through various media platforms. He’s also making statements that are inaccurate and trashing players along the way.

He needs to go back into silence mode or go into salesman mode. He’s not helping, he’s making the situation worse. I think he’s secretly hoping SU fumbles the ball again with the next hire so his legacy remains intact. His ego is driving his statements. He should stop immediately.
