JB's Presser (because you all want to listen)

JB at his best - a must listen. He rarely pulls any punches, and the writing is already on the wall with regard to what he will be doing with the rotation to try and fix the O.

Because there isn't even a threat of low post scoring, we have to have dribble penetration and Lydon at the 5.

Everyone knew that before the season started. Guess JB was just giving the bigs a chance to try and prove their worth.

is he trying to convince us or himself that lydon's best fit is at 5 ?

Neither. Lydon is best as a 4. He is going to play the 5 out of necessity.

It would be very interesting, to me anyway, to see what Lydon could do posting up with TT at the high post.

begs the question of why we don't have a serviceable center who can guard the likes of the Estonian general zod ?

Can someone explain why Coleman and Chukwu combined for 32 minutes? Both were fine against our first four opponents but both were clearly not ready for SC today. Both were frequently out of position and didn't step up in the zone when it was needed and in the rare occasion they did it was usually too slow/late.

Lydon might not have the bulk of Coleman or height of Chukwu, but he's long, moves well, and knows where he is supposed to be on defense. I'm not sure why Chukwu didn't learn positioning when he sat out last year, and like JB said, Coleman has no excuse. He's a 5th year player.

Right now I think our biggest issues are 1) Defensive Center 2) Free Throw Shooting 3) Low Post Scoring. Lydon will hopefully start to get 25-30 mpg at center to solve that issue for the most part. Howard's the main issue at the charity stripe. His progression at the line will be key, especially if we need him in the late parts of games or overtime. Low Post scoring should be helped a bit with Lydon at the 5, but he's more of a stretch 5 with a bit of a post game. Hopefully our guards get more aggressive and can start finishing through contact. If our guards do better in the paint it should lessen our need for low post scoring.

This is our best lineup and should play the majority of the minutes
Frank
Battle
White
Roberson
Lydon

These 3 should get 10 minutes
Coleman for Lydon
Gillon for Frank or Battle
TT for Roberson.

Chuckwu should cap at 5 minutes barring foul trouble. Coleman was much better than him today but seemed like Chuck got more minutes

Not sure why Gillon got so many more mins than Battle. Gillon was bad today

Battle?? I appreciate you sticking up for your buddy but he has a ways to go my friend.

JB's a cool customer. Positively sanguine. Like he didn't expect or want the L but made his peace with it, as part of the team's growth spurt. That never happens without some pain.

As it happens, I took the loss pretty much the same way, though mostly because I wasn't there at Barclays but home listening to the SC radio guys. Who were very professional and not homers FWIW.

Seriously. I picked him to lead all scorers for the season here and he COULD surprise us but I'm glad there's no $ wagered here!

They beat us because they made 8 more shots and ft's were a push. the rebounding and turnovers were both in their favor by a few.

I agree offense was the problem but defense shouldn't get off without some criticism.
They shot 45%. The goal is to shoot around 44% and hold your opponent to 35, that should be the golden standard Both of our teams were averaging nearly that coming in. They flipped us and we got a nasty wake up call.

Its going to be interesting taking stabs at what was a good shot and what was a bad one, as I am completely clueless on that one. Great point by JB. Our drive and kick game, and hesitation in the lane is non-existent. how lucky we were to have mali and gbinije who could find the right shot with 10 left on the clock all alone.

He usually is more composed and introspective in defeat. And he often uses these moments to send messages to his players. Here, he was lighting a fire under Coleman and Roberson. We'll see if they respond against Wisconsin.

Anyone else sick of JB having to light a fire under Roberson? He's one of the most enigmatic and frustrating players ever at Syracuse. Why does this guy not bring it every game?

At some point you have to wonder if he's capable of bringing it every night or is it the nights he does do very well that it's flukish.

At some point I think the staff has to make quicker in game judgments on what Roberson is in the building. Engaged and energetic or enigmatic. If he isn't engaged he has to sit as he gives us very little otherwise. His skill is his energy.
