JBs response to Doyel...

The funny thing about the presser was how near the end JP was trying to make nice and said "I would have answered the question that way from anyone who asked it..nothing personal"

umm. no...if you watch the convo again JB immediately says "i expect that from YOU"

not saying it wasn't justified, just saying the make nice was BS and it was personal

Right on, Jake. However, he is also a stubborn SOB that will give no journalist - not a one - the benefit of a definitive answer, even if he has one. Does he have one? I'm with you that I don't think he does, but simply knows that in his heart he is not yet done and it won't be this year. Something is tugging at his heart, though, and those who think his return is a stone cold unquestionable lock are simply missing it.

I think his handling of the nonstop probing questions has been just fine.

It was a stupid question that had nothing to do with the game. It was showboating by a hack, designed to get an emotional response from an emotional man in an emotional moment.
Doyle is the consummate, ignorant, arrogant hack, & he should be treated as such.

When JB gives an answer let us know because he hasn't yet! JB comes off looking foolish by starting fights with the media and getting aggravated by the question. JB can end all speculation if he wanted to, he doesn't.

How come Coach K, Steve Fisher, Roy Williams etc aren't hounded with this question after every single game? Why the different media agenda? All had very disappointing seasons compared to the preseason rankings and are 62 on up. Can you answer this? Why the obsession with Boeheim?

Had way too many qualifiers. He snuck in the dreaded "I intend to" and a "my plan is to" return.

a la the 'vote of confidence'

I agree!! Which is why Doyle was asking a legit question and JB looked foolish and childish with his initial response.

I agree 100% with his response. the question is inappropriate. Most companies I know of have policies against asking other employees if/when they intend to retire. Asking such questions are often considered an insinuation that the person presenting the question wants the older employee to retire. Older people do have the right to work and it is no one else's business when they will retire..

Didn't DG confirm afterwards to Doyel that JB would be coaching next year? I've been reading so much I could swear I read that too.

Because Jim has never answered the question. He always leaves wiggle room. The others when asked the question give a solid answer!

I'm no genius but it seems darn clear to me that he's planning to coach in the ACC as evidenced in his responses and if he changes his mind that no matter how many times the media asks he won't announce it based on a sport writers timeline. It's moronic to me that the media thinks that constantly badgering by asking the same question each press conference will get them the response they want. Isn't insanity defined by doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results?

JB needs to work with a media consultant. No, He doesn't. His relationship with the press have always been confrontational. Yep. He is jekyl and hyde, sometimes humorous and engaging, other times just plain ornery and mean spirited. He has little tolerance for ignorance. He brings these problems on himself. So what? Could easily answer these questions in a straight forward manner/professional manner and move on, and he doesn't. Again, back to the tolerance of the media, they're morons for the large part. The ACC press is going to have fun next year. If they ask the same stupid questions the BE press do, probably.
I could care less if JB walked into the interview room, farted into the microphone and walked out.

Could you link where Coach K has been asked this question and his definitive answer? I've googled it and can only find articles by sportswriters saying how difficult it will be to replace him. I'm surprised we haven't read nor heard of the press conference when was asked and of course his answer. That would be huge news wouldn't it?

There are several reasons to be fair. The other teams dont already have a replacement coach picked out. You generally do that when the end is nigh.

You mean like, "I don't give a shiznit about North Carolina?"

Or to ensure your prized assistant doesn't get away. (Although it doesn't always work.)

He's basically saying there's a 99% chance he'll be back. What's wrong with that? Nothing is absolutely certain. There are a variety of things that could cause anyone to change their mind.

Marrone was more concerned with giving a satisfactory answer than an honest one and look how that turned out.
